أَبَعدَ بَني زِرٍّ وَبَعدَ إِبنِ جَندَلٍ

وَعَمرٍ وَأُرَجّي لَذَّةِ العَيشِ في خَفضِ

After the departure of Banu Zirr and Ibn Jandal

And Umar and Arjee who enjoyed life living simply,

مَضوا وَبَقينا نَأمُلُ العَيشَ بَعدَهُم

أَلا إِنَّ مَن يَبقى عَلى إِثرِ مَن يَمضي

They passed away while we remain hoping to live after them.

Indeed, whoever remains after another departs
