خف السَّلاطينَ واحذَرْ أن تُلابِسَهُم
ما دامَ أمْرُهمُ فِي المُلكِ مُضْطرِبا
Fear the sultans, and beware of associating with them
So long as their state in power remains precarious.
إنَّ المُلوكَ بِحارٌ في خَلائِقِهم
ومَنْ سَما البحرَ في أهوالِهِ عَطِبا
Indeed, kings in their temperaments are seas;
Whoever ventures upon the sea amid its terrors perishes.
