سَبْعٌ لِيَ اليَوْمَ أيا بُغْيَتي

لَم يَبْدُ لي مَنْظَرُكَ الأوْسَمُ

Today marks seven nights for me, O my heart’s desire—

your fairest aspect has not appeared to me.

ماذا الجفاءُ اللهَ في مُغْرَمٍ

أدْمُعُهُ مِنْ لَوْعَةٍ تَسْجُمُ

Why such coldness? Heed God in your treatment of one enamored,

whose tears stream from burning anguish.

أيَظْهَرُ البَدْرُ عَلى بُعْدِهِ

وأنتَ بالقُرْبِ ولا تُنْعِمُ

Does the full moon appear despite its distance,

while you are near, yet grant no favor?
