كنتُ أظُنُّ البعادَ يُسْلِي

والحَقُّ أنَّ البعادَ يُصْلي

I thought distance would console me,

But truly, distance afflicts me.

ما خَلَقَ اللهُ شَرَّ خَطْبٍ

مِنْ فُرقَةٍ في زَمانِ وَصْلِ

God has created no greater evil

Than separation in a time of union.
