رَمَيْتُهُ بِوَردةٍ مُطْرِفاً
فَردَّها وتاهَ بالخدِّ
I threw at him a rose, coquettishly
He returned it, and it got lost in his cheek
فَعادَتِ الوَردَةُ في خَجْلَةٍ
تَبْدُو عَليها صُفرةُ الحِقْدِ
So the rose returned, shyly
Showing on it the yellowness of spite
