  1. أحِنُّ إلى نَجْدٍ إذا ذُكِرَتْ نَجْدُ

    ويَعْتادُ قَلبي مِنْ تَذكُّرِها وَجْدُ

    I long for Najd whenever Najd is mentioned,

    And my heart grows accustomed to yearning for it.

  2. ويَعْتَلُّ جِسْمي أن يَهُبَّ نَسيمُها

    عَليلاً له بالأثْلِ أثلِ الحِمَى عَهْدُ

    My body grows weak, wishing for its breeze to blow,

    Sick with ardent love - the utmost fever.

  3. وما مَقصدي نَجدٌ ولا ذِكْرُ عَهْدِها

    ولكن لِجَرّي مَنْ غَدتْ دارَهُ نَجْدُ

    It's not Najd I aim for, nor memory of its past,

    But because it's become the abode of she who tossed me about.

  4. رمَتْني النَّوى قَصْداً فأصْمَتْ مَقاتلي

    وللبَيْنِ سَهْمٌ لَيْسَ يُخطي لَهُ قَصْدُ

    Ill fate cast me there, though my warriors grew silent.

    Separation's arrow cannot miss its mark.

  5. ألا هَلْ لأيَّامٍ تَقَضَّيْنَ بالحِمَى

    سَبيلٌ لِذي وَجْدٍ تَناهَى بهِ الجَهْدُ

    Is there a way for one racked with passion

    To relive those days once spent reveling?

  6. إذِ الدَّهرُ سَعدٌ والزَّمانُ مُساعِدٌ

    فلا الصَّبُّ مَصدودٌ ولا البابُ مُنسَدُّ

    When luck smiles, and time lends a hand,

    No downpour stops nor doors bar the way.

  7. سَقى اللهُ أكنافَ الحِمى كُلَّ واكِفٍ

    مِنَ الدَّمعِ يُرْوِيها إذا أخْلَفَ الرَّعدُ

    May God water the environs of the Hima

    With tears like rain when thunder departs.

  8. وحَيّى وُجوهَ الحَيِّ من جانِبِ الغَضا

    بِكلِّ حَياً يُعدي بخِصْبٍ ولا يَعْدُو

    And give life to the faces of the living tribes

    With abundant fortune, ever on the rise.

  9. أأحبابَ قَلْبي والهَوانُ أخُو الهَوى

    وإنَّ الَّذي أُخْفي لفَوقَ الَّذي يَبْدو

    My heart's loved ones - though love brings disgrace,

    What's revealed is less than what I conceal.

  10. خُذوا بِيَدي قد ضِقْتُ ذَرعاً بِصَدِّكُمْ

    وإِلّا فإجْهازاً ومِنْ بعدِ ذا صُدُّوا

    Take me by the hand, for your disapproval wearies me.

    Make ready my camel litter, then turn away.

  11. إذا أنتُمُ لم تَرْحَمُوا ذلَّ مَوْقِفي

    فَقولوا لِمنْ آتي فأرْجوهُ مِنْ بَعْدُ

    If you will not pity my predicament,

    Tell whoever comes that I hope for guidance.

  12. صِلوا أو فَصُدُّوا أنْتُم الأمْنُ والمُنى

    عَلى كلِّ حالٍ ليسَ لي عَنْكُمُ بُدُّ

    Be forgiving or turn me away - you are my wish and refuge.

    I have no alternative, whatever may come.

  13. أقول وعَبْراتي غَوادٍ رَوائحٌ

    لِخلَّيْن أقْصاني وإيَّاهُما الصَّدُّ

    I say - though my tears are copious, fragrant drops -

    For two friends whose reproach cuts deep.

  14. بِعَيْشِكُما إنْ جِئتُما أجرَعَ الحِمى

    قِفا فابْكِيا مَنْ ليسَ يُرجى لهُ رُشْدُ

    If you come to lofty Hima, stop and weep

    For one whose reason cannot be retrieved.

  15. فإنْ تُسْألا مَن ذا الَّذي تَنْدُبانِهِ

    فَقُولا مَشوقٌ خانَهُ في الهَوى الجَدُّ

    If asked who it is you mourn,

    Say: a lover whom passion betrayed.

  16. خَليليَّ والعُشَّاقُ في الحُبِّ أضْرُبٌ

    ولكنَّنِي في لوْعَتي عَلَمٌ فَرْدُ

    My two friends - though lovers vary in love -

    In my agony, I'm peerless.

  17. نَشدتُكُما اللهَ اصْدُقانِيَ هَلْ لِما

    بَدا لَكُما مِن حالتي في الهَوى نِدُّ

    I implore you - tell me true - have you seen

    In my state of love one more crazed?

  18. تَألَّى عليَّ الدَّهرُ نَقْضَ عَزائِمي

    فأصبحتُ لا حَلٌّ لَديَّ ولا عَقْدُ

    Fate has undone my resolves,

    Leaving me no solution or bond.

  19. أعاذِلتي إن كانَ لَومِيْ عَلى الهَوى

    فَليسَ لقلبي فيهِ أخذٌ ولا رَدُّ

    Reproach me if blame for love is due,

    For my heart cannot reject it or assent.

  20. عَسى اللهُ أن يُحْيي سُروري بِقُربِهمْ

    فَقدْ نالَ مِنِّي فوقَ ماشاءهُ البُعْدُ

    God grant he revive my joy by their nearness,

    After absence has drained me of all I can bear.

  21. فيصبحَ قَلبي وهو بَيْنَ جَوانِحي

    وقدْ دانتِ الدُّنيا وقَدْ ساعَد السَّعْدُ

    To find my heart still lodged between my ribs

    When the world has bent low and luck lent a hand.
