كأنّه طبّق الدنيا إذا انبسطت

فرسانه لمغارٍ يَومَ إرسال

As if it were a platter of the world when his horsemen deployed

Knights for a cave on a day of dispatch

مُقاربُ الخَطوَ لا تُخطى بوادرهُ

كالبحرِ يجرفُ وشلا بعد أوشالِ

The steps of his approach cannot be crossed in their early stages

Like a sea sweeping away wave after wave

إذا انثنى بقفُولٍ ماج من عِظمِ

دهراً كأنَّ ذويهِ غيرُ قُفّالِ

When he turns away bowed under blows from the passage of time

For ages as if his people were other than rock-climbers
