وذو خُضرةٍ مقسومةٍ شقّ بينهَا

بَياضٌ كعرضِ السَّيفِ لم يَتتلّمِ

With a split greenness, between which

Is a whiteness like the width of an unsheathed sword,

هُوَ الصُّبح إلاّ أنّهُ حانَ ليلهُ

فقسّمهُ شطرين في جلد أدهمِ

It is the dawn, except that its night has come,

So it split it in two halves on a dark skin.

إذا لاح في حيزومهِ فكأنّهُ

عليه نظامُ فوق جيدٍ ومعصَمِ

When its crescent shines, it is as though

On it is a bracelet above a neck and wrist.

إذا مرَّ لم يدخُل مَمرّاً كأنّما

سَقَوهُ مُداماً بالكبير المفدَّمِ

When it passes, it does not enter a passage, as though

They gave it to drink unmixed wine in a large cup.
