كأنّما الخيل أولُهُ ضوارمُها

أسدٌ وبينُهما صُلحٌ قد انعقدا

As though their stallions at the outset of battle

Were lions, and between them a truce was struck

كأنّما قمم الفرسان قد تركت

فيها النعامُ تريكاً عمَّها عددا

As though the peaks left by the horsemen

Were ostriches wandering over them in multitudes

كأنّها وسيوفُ الهندِ تترعُها

طيرٌ تجاوبُ طيراً صيتاً غرَدا

As though the Indian swords flashing

Were birds calling to birds with a thrilling song
