1. وليلٍ بغى فيهِ الغُرابُ جناحَه

    ولم يَنفصل عنهُ ولكنّهُ عمي

    In a night when the raven folded its wings

    And did not separate from it but rather was blind

  2. دجاً فكأنّي من حناياهُ أو أتى

    جريمةَ سوءٍ في سريرةِ مُجرمِ

    In the darkness, as if I were in its corners or it had come

    Upon an evil crime in the bed of a criminal

  3. إذا قُلتُ أَينَ الصُّبحُ فاضت سدولُهُ

    عليَّ كانّي مُستغيثُ بأبكمِ

    If I say where is the dawn, its shadows overflow

    Upon me as if I were crying out to a mute one

  4. وأفزعُ مِن إطراقهِ فكأنّهُ

    يُراصدُ إطلاقي نجيَّ التكتّمِ

    And I am startled by its staring as if it

    Were watching for my escape, savior of the secretive
