A flawless yellow palm, whose ruddy date-bunch

Glows like an ember lit for war's fierce feast.

Its yellowness the hue of ripe sheaves

That clothe this tree in majesty of mien.

It weeps pearl-drops that stream from every pipe

As music's mournful measures thrill the soul.

It dies and lives again from time to time -

Behold this endless miracle of palm!
