1. ودَنَت في هبُوبها مِشيَةَ النش

    وانِ حَيرانَ بالمدامِ الشّمولِ

    The breeze softly caressed the swaying branches,

    While I stood bewildered by the all-encompassing wine.

  2. لصَقت بالثّرى كما يخضعُ العا

    شقُ ذُلاًّ إلى الحبيبِ المًطولِ

    I clung to the ground like the suppliant does,

    Crawling humbly to the beloved's embrace.

  3. ولقد خلتُ أن بينهما عِش

    قا فصارا للضمِّ والتّقبيلِ

    I imagined that between them lived passion,

    Becoming an object of holding and kissing.

  4. واختفت عن فواطِنِ الخَلقِ حتّى

    شبّهوها ضآلةً بنحولِ

    I disappeared from people's hearts until

    They compared me to something slender and frail.
