ومما يقطَعُ الحيزومَ عندي
مرُوري بالشّواءِ على الخوانِ
What makes my throat constrict
Is passing by the dishes on the tray
وتندى بُردتي خَلفي إذا ما
نظرتُ إلى الهرائسِ في الجفانِ
My clothes shiver behind me when
I look upon the lamb chops frying
كأنّ الزّيتَ والعسلَ المصفّى
عبيرٌ خالصٌ في دُهنِ بانِ
As though the strained oil and honey
Were pure perfume in the jar of ointment
وباذنجان مثلِ كُراتِ ضَربٍ
تَضمّنها لُبابُ الجُلجُلانِ
And eggplants like balls of fragrance
Wrapped in grape leaves
وقد وقفَ الصّيام على فراغٍ
ونفسي سوفنَ تفرغُ بالأماني
Now that fasting has ended
My soul will indulge in wishes
