وهمةٍ في المعالي كنتُ أكبتُها

زرِّي مخافةَ أن تَجني على عُنُقي

I used to suppress any ambition,

Fearing that it would strike my neck.

أباحَها السُّكرُ مني فامتلا حسداً

خِلّي وأُرعدَ نَدماني من الفَرَقِ

Drunkenness made me reveal it, so it filled with envy,

My friend shuddered and my regret thundered because of separation.

هل تحفظُ الكأسُ يوماً سرَّ صاحبها

وسرُّها غيرُ محفوظ من الَحدَقِ

Can the cup ever keep its owner's secret one day?

Its secret is not kept from spies.
