Sol 5.6

  1. Holding office has become a turning-away

of livelihood from whoever takes office.

  2. He seeks some gain, and it gives him instead

a slap that would make even an elephant’s nose bleed.

  3. Leave it just as it is—nothing but

    baseness wrapped in ill omen.

  4. And in my judgment, better than that

is for a man to hold out his hand and beg.
