1. اكفنا زحمةَ الذُّبِاب بإبعَا

    دِ قَذَالٍ تَنتَابُه الذُّبانُ

    Rid us of the flies’ crush by keeping away

    a nape that the flies continually visit.

  2. هبك أوتيتَ تاج ملك فأني

    لك رأسٌ للتاج فيه مكانُ

    Suppose you were granted a king’s crown—how then

    could you have a head with room in it for the crown?

  3. ليس ما حُزتَه من المال بِدعاً

    هاك قد حازتِ السُّلافَ دنانُ

    Your amassing wealth is nothing strange;

    look—jars, too, have held the choicest wine.
