1. أرى ذا النَّقصِ لا يَعبأ بِذمّ

    كذا من يَعم لا يَخشَ الظَّلاما

    I see the one with flaws does not care for blame

    Just as one with insight does not fear the dark

  2. تزاحمت النفوسُ على المَساوي

    وما ألقى على فَضلٍ زِحَامَا

    Souls competed for equality

    Yet excellence drew no crowds

  3. وصارَ الناسُ كُلُّهمُ خِداعاً

    فَصِرتُ أَشُكُّ في نفسي اتهاماً

    And people all turned to deceit

    So I began to doubt myself with accusations

  4. تجَاَهل للجَهُول فإن عَقلا

    إذا صاحبتَ غُمياً أن تَعَامَى

    Ignore the ignorant, for if you reason

    Accompanying a fool, pretend to be blind
