تَعانقنَا لتوديعٍ عِشاءً

وقد شرِقَت بأَدمُعِها الحِدَاقُ

We embraced for a farewell in the evening

As the tears in her eyes rose in the east

فما زال العِناقُ يضيقُ حَتَّى

تَشكَّكنا عناقٌ أم خِناقُ

So the embrace kept getting tighter until

We doubted, was it an embrace or a noose?
