إذا ما عقدنا مِنَّةً عند جَاحد

فلم نَرهُ إلا حرُوناً عن الشُّكر

When we confer a favor on an ingrate,

And find him other than grateful,

رَجَعنا فعقَّبنَا الجميلَ بضدِّه

وقلنا له ها فالقَ عاقبة الكفرِ

We turn back, and requite kindness with its opposite,

And say to him, "There, take the consequence of ingratitude!"
