رأيتك في نومي كأنك راحل

وقمنا الى التوديع والدمع هامل

I saw you in my sleep, as though you were departing;

we rose to bid farewell, while tears poured down.

وزال الكرى عني وأنت معانقي

وغمي إذا عاينت ذلك زائل

Then sleep fell away from me, and you were embracing me;

and my grief, when I beheld that, vanished.

فجددت تعنيقاً وضماً كأنني

عليك من البين المفرق واجل

So I embraced and held you close anew, as though I were

fearful for you of separation—the sunderer.
