أنا العلق الذي لا عيب فيه

سوى بلدي وأني غير طاري

I am the perfect one with no fault

I am the priceless treasure in which there is no flaw,

Except my country and that I can’t fly

Save for my homeland, and that I am no stranger from afar.

تقر لي العراق ومن يليها

وأهل الأرض إلا أهل داري

Iraq favors me and those around it

Iraq and all the neighboring lands acknowledge my stature,

And all the people of earth except my own people

As do all the people of the earth, save the folk of my own house.

طووا حسداً على أدبٍ وفهم

وعلم ما يشق له غباري

They coil with envy over my manners and wisdom

They harbor envy against my refinement and intellect,

And knowledge that my glory can't conceal

And a knowledge so vast that none can match my stride.

فمهما طار في الأفاق ذكرى

فما سطع الدخان بغير نار

So no matter how far my fame spreads through the horizons

Yet however far my fame soars across the horizons,

Smoke won't rise without fire

No smoke ever rises without a blazing fire.
