سِرْنا إلى الغَرْبِ حيثُ الشُهْبُ مائِلَةٌ
كمِثلِ مَن يرْتجي اللُقْيا وينتظِرُ
We journeyed westward, where the shooting stars were slanting,
like one who hopes for a meeting and waits.
وبيْنَنا نِسْبَةٌ في السّيْرِ واضحةٌ
كادتْ تجمّعُنا لوْ ساعدَ القدَرُ
Between us was a clear resemblance in our journeying;
that likeness nearly brought us together—if only fate had helped.
