1. أخَطْبٌ هوى بالنّيراتِ من العُلا

    وبُشْرى بها وجْهُ الزّمانِ تهلّلا

    A message of love from the highlands is brought,

    Good tidings making the world radiant.

  2. قضى نحبَهُ موْلى المُلوكِ وأعمَلتْ

    ركائِبُهُ حتّى المَعادِ ترحّلا

    The Master of Kings fulfilled his promise,

    His caravans kept marching to the place of promise.

  3. وفازَ ابنُهُ الأرضَى وحافظُ عهدِه

    بما حازهُ من مُلْكِ آبائِهِ الأُلى

    His worthy son and keeper of his covenant

    Inherited his forefathers’ empire and kingdom,

  4. على صغَرِ السّنّ استقلَّ برُتبةٍ

    تحمّلَ من أعْبائِها ما تحمَّلا

    Assumed high office while still young,

    Bearing responsibilities heavy to carry.

  5. لقد كانَ صُبْحُ اليومِ أغْبَرَ داجياً

    فعادَ بمن أبْقَى أغَرَّ محَجَّلا

    Though this day dawned gloomy and cloudy,

    It cleared with the survivor, brightly lit.

  6. فإن غابَ نورُ البدْرِ أو منعَ الحَيا

    نداهُ فهذا البحْرُ والفجْرُ يُجْتَلى

    If the full moonlight vanished or life withheld it,

    This sea and dawn can still be extracted.

  7. وإنْ غرُبَ النجْمُ الذي كان يُهْتدَى

    بهِ فمُحيّا الصُبْحِ قد لاحَ مُقْبِلا

    If the guiding star that was followed had set,

    The brilliant morn has clearly emerged.

  8. وإنْ صوّحَ المرْعَى وخفّ قطينُه

    فهذا هوَ الروضُ الذي راقَ مُجْتَلى

    If the pasture withered and its plants declined,

    This is the meadow that was delightful.

  9. وإنْ كان وادِي النّيلِ جفّ مَعينُهُ

    فهذا هوَ النّيلُ الذي يُنبتُ الكَلا

    If the Nile valley’s springs were dry,

    This Nile grows plants and palms aplenty.

  10. وإنْ كان ليلُ الخطْبِ من بعدِهِ دَجا

    فقدْ طلعَتْ شمسُ الهِدايةِ وانجَلى

    If after him came a dark night,

    The sun of guidance rose radiant.

  11. وإن كان فينا الرُّزْءُ قد جلّ موْقِعاً

    فهذا الذي جَلّى دُجاهُ بما جلا

    If we were touched by affliction,

    He who enhanced his light relieved it.

  12. وإن ضلّتَ الأيامُ قصْدَ سَبيلها

    فخُذْ للهُدَى منهُ سبيلاً مُوصَّلا

    If the days were misguided from their path,

    Take from him a guided course connected.

  13. أحَقاً ثَوى تحْتَ الثَّرى ملِكُ الوَرى

    وأوْرَدَهُ المِقْدارُ للحتْفِ منْهَلا

    Does the King of Kings rightly rest below the soil,

    And destiny made him drink of mortality?

  14. ومَن راقَ منهُ العِلمُ والحِلمُ والتُقى

    ومَنْ أسْبَغَ النُعْمى عليْنا وأجْزَلا

    He from whom knowledge, wisdom and piety flowed,

    Who abundantly bestowed favors on us?

  15. ومَن سدَلَ السّتْرَ الجميلَ تفضُّلاً

    ومدّ علينا منهُ سِجفاً مُظَلَّلا

    He who gracefully let down the beautiful veil,

    And stretched over us a shaded pavilion?

  16. إذا لجأ الدّينُ الحنيفُ لنصْرِهِ

    رأى رأيَهُ كهْفاً مَنيعاً وموْئِلا

    If the true religion sought his support

    It found in him an impregnable refuge and haven.

  17. إذا ضعْضَعَ الأيامَ واقِعُ حادِثٍ

    رَسا علَماً فوقَ الكواكِبِ قد عَلا

    If the course of events shook the earth,

    He hoisted aloft a flag above the stars unfurled.

  18. إذا عزّ خطْبٌ أو تفاقمَ مُعضِلٌ

    وجدْناهُ رُكْناً مستقِلاً وموئِلا

    If a problem grew complex and difficult,

    We found him a strong and steadfast pillar.

  19. أيوسُفُ هلْ من عَطْفةٍ تُرتَجى لأن

    يَنال بك الإسْلامُ ما كان أمَّلا

    O Joseph, is there still a kind glance to hope

    That through you Islam gains what it yearns for?

  20. فإنْ لاحَ نورُ البدْرِ واسترسَلَ الحَيا

    غَدا كفُّهُ أنْدى ومَرْآهُ أجْمَلا

    If the full moon gleams and life flows easy,

    His palm will be fresher and his aspect more beautiful.

  21. سيبلُغُ في حرْبِ العِدى كُلَّ غايةٍ

    يُرى القدَرُ الجاري بهِ متكفّلا

    He will attain every goal in the war against enemies,

    With fate seen to ensure it.

  22. كأنّي به قد أرسلَ الخيْلَ في الوَغى

    فأوْرَدَها بحْرَ النّجيعِ وأنْهَلا

    I can see him unleashing horses in the fray,

    Driving them to the abundant meadows to graze their fill.

  23. كأنّي به ماضي العزيمةِ في العِدى

    إذا خفّتِ الخيْلُ انثِناءً تمهّلا

    I see him resolute on the battlefield,

    Slowing a little when the horses tire.

  24. كأنّي به والبيضُ تخطُبُ فيهمُ

    بفصْلِ خِطابٍ حيثُ طبَّقْنَ مَفْصِلا

    I can see him eloquently addressing the brave ones,

    His speech precisely differentiated and clear.

  25. كأنّي به والحربُ ترفَعُ دونَه

    عوامِلَ قد أضحى لها النّصْرُ مُعْمِلا

    I see war raising up its pillars around him,

    And victory laboring for him thoroughly.

  26. تَرى وجْهَهُ طلْقَ الأسرّةِ كلّما

    أفادَ العَطايا باسِماً متهلِّلا

    His face appears bright and delighted whenever

    He grants gifts with a joyous laugh.

  27. يخفُّ إليْهِ الوفْدُ في طَلَبِ النّدى

    فيرْجِعُ ممْلوءَ الحقائِبِ مُثْقَلا

    The delegation hurry to him seeking bounty,

    And return with their burdens full heavy.

  28. وجادَ لأهْلِ العِلمِ عزَّ جَنابُهُمْ

    فلا عملٌ إلا غَدا مُتَقَبَّلا

    He was generous to the people of knowledge,

    So none of their works failed to be accepted.

  29. وجدّد في آلِ النبيّ مَراسِماً

    بها أحْرزَ المجْدَ الرّفيعَ المؤَثّلا

    He renewed the symbols of Prophet’s family,

    Thereby attaining elevated eternal glory.

  30. وصابَحَ أعْلامَ الجهادِ برفْدِه

    فأصْبَحَ غيثاً في البَسيطةِ مُرْسَلا

    He supported the champions of jihad,

    Becoming for the open land a pouring rain.

  31. وهذي الرّعايا قد رَعاها تلطّفاً

    فما أخْصَبَ المرْعى وما أبدَعَ الكَلا

    He cared for the common people gently,

    So the pasture became lush and the plants ample.

  32. حَبا بالعَطايا والكُسا أوْلياءهُ

    فأوْرَدَهُمْ بحْرَ المكارمِ سَلْسَلا

    He loved his loyal friends with gifts and apparel,

    Quenching them at the sea of bounties mixed together.

  33. وحلّوا بها النّادي فما زهَرُ الرُبى

    بأبْدَعَ منها في العيونِ وأجْمَلا

    They filled the assembly and the dwellings bloomed,

    More beautifully than the loveliest of visions.

  34. وأمْطى من الغرّ الجِيادِ سوابِقاً

    محاسِنُها تستوقِفُ المتأمّلا

    He sent out the excellent steeds racing,

    Appointing a winner, adorning a second and third.

  35. فأرْسَلَ مرْتاحاً وأهْدى مجَلّياً

    وأمَّن مرْتاعاً وحَلّى مُعَطَّلا

    There they are before him, thanking for a bounty

    That brought them to settle in the wished-for abode.

  36. فهاهُمْ لدَيْهِ شاكِرينَ لنعمَةٍ

    أحَلّتْهُمُ دوْحَ المُنى مُتهدّلا

    They lived the generous Imam Muhammad long,

    Noble, forbearing, beneficent and generous.

  37. وحيّوْا من المَوْلى الإمامِ محمدٍ

    كريماً حَليماً منْعِماً مُتفضِّلا

    My lord, my master, through your father may I gain

    Glory touching the stars pouring down.

  38. أمولايَ مولانا أبوكَ أنالني

    من العزّ ما سامَ النّجومَ تنزُّلا

    And greater care than which he maintained

    Over me, recording the pact of loyalty.

  39. وأوْلى من النّعْماءِ ما كان عاقِداً

    عليّ به عقدَ الولاءِ مُسجَّلا

    I used to proudly drag the train of conceit,

    Boasting to him of my poems - Jarir and Akhtal.

  40. وجرّرْتُ ذيْلَ العُجْبِ إذ كنتُ عندَهُ

    أباهي بأمْداحي جَريراً وأخطَلا

    If souls could be ransomed, I would have rushed

    To die for him - I would be the first.

  41. ولو كان يُفْدى بالنفوسِ وسابَقَتْ

    لتَلْقى المَنايا دونَهُ كنتُ أوّلا

    You are his worthy son and heir to his rule,

    You watered the gardens of thought and they bore fruit.

  42. وأنتَ ابنُهُ الأرضَى ووارِثُ مُلكِهِ

    سقيْتَ رياضَ الفكْرِ مني فأخْضَلا

    The pasture of my poetry was dry and barren,

    You revived it after it languished wilted.

  43. وقد كان مرْعى النّظْمِ عندي مُصوِّحاً

    فروّيْتَهُ من بعدِما كان أمْحَلا

    You granted me gifts too sublime to measure,

    And clothed me in exquisite robes.

  44. وأوْلَيتني النّعْمى التي جلّ قدْرُها

    وألبَسْتَني الأثْوابَ رائقةَ الحُلا

    You garlanded me like a dove, so how not

    To coo atop a branch bending luxuriant?

  45. وطوّقْتَني طوْقَ الحَمامِ فكيفَ لا

    أجيدُ هَديلاً فوقَ دوْحٍ تهدّلا

    Heir of Prophet’s companions and friends

    Through whom the true religion is adorned.

  46. أوارِثَ أنصارِ النّبيِّ وصحْبِهِ

    ومَنْ بهِمُ الدّينُ الحنيفُ تجمّلا

    Why should I praise people the Quran already

    Expounded upon in detail clear?

  47. بماذا عَسى أثني على قومكَ الأُلى

    وقد وردَ القرآنُ فيهم مفصّلا

    But I shape my composition as a necklace

    To show you some subtle crafted pearls.

  48. ولكنّني أُبْدي نظامِي قلادةً

    تُريكَ من الألفاظِ دُرّاً مفَصَّلا

    So persist triumphant, guided and supported,

    Exalted, pleased and confident, reliant on God.

  49. فلازِلتَ منصوراً رَشيداً مؤيّداً

    عليّاً رضيّاً واثِقاً متوكِّلا

    We are servants of the victorious King, pleased,

    Your father who befriended the beautiful and excelled.

  50. ونحنُ عبيدُ الناصِرِ الملكِ الرّضَى

    أبيكَ الذي والَى الجَميلَ وأفضَلا

    You are the veil that in its generous shade

    Remains God’s veil spread over you.

  51. وأنتَ هوَ السّتْرُ الذي فاء ظلُّهُ

    فلا زالَ سِتْر اللهِ فوقَكَ مُسْبَلا
