لكَ الهَدْيُ تجْلوهُ العزائِمُ مشْرِقا

فتعْنو لهُ الأملاكُ غرْباً ومَشْرِقا

You are guided to glory, upheld by resolute determination

The angels incline to you, from West to East

تلوحُ ومِن مرْعاكَ شمسُ هِدايةٍ

أنارَ بأفْقِ المعْلُواتِ وأشْرَقا

Your guiding light shines forth, illuminating the horizons of knowledge

You have cleared up verses that were ambiguous

جَلَوْتَ من الآياتِ ما كان مُبْهَماً

وفتّحْتَ للحاجاتِ ما كان مُغْلَقا

And opened to needs what was closed

So generous, as you have described the ever-present al-Hayy

فجودٌ كما أخْبرْتَ عن واكِفِ الحَيا

وعزْمٌ كما حُدِّثْتَ عنْ أسَدِ اللِقا

And so resolute, as you have related about the formidable warrior

And who is like our Master, the Caliph Yusuf -

ومَن مِثلُ موْلانا الخليفَةِ يُوسُفٍ

عُلىً وحُلىً يا ما أبَرَّ وأشْفَقا

Exalted and adorned, how righteous and merciful!

An Imam endowed by Allah with kingship after

إمامٌ حَباهُ الله بالمُلْكِ بعْدَ ما

تخيَّرهُ من دوْحةِ النّصْرِ وانْتَقى

He selected you from the cradle of victory and chose you

You have wisdom, daring, noble traits

له الحزْمُ والإقْدامُ والشِّيَمُ العُلَى

وبَذْلُ النّدى والحِلْمُ والعِلْمُ والتُقَى

And the giving of aid, clemency, knowledge and piety

You have a resolve that subdues the lofty, and an ambition

لهُ عزْمةٌ تُدْني القَصيَّ وهِمّةٌ

تناهَتْ إلى أعْلى الكواكِبِ مُرْتَقى

That has reached to the highest stars, climbing

Your strong determination dispels the darkness of trials

فيَجْلو خُطوبَ الدهْرِ نيِّرُ عزْمِهِ

كَما صدَعَ الظّلْماءَ برْقٌ تألّقا

As a flashing lightning illuminates the gloom

Your life relates the full moon on its brightest night

مُحيّاهُ يحْكي البدْرَ ليلةَ تَمّه

ويُمْناهُ تحْكي العارِضَ المتَدَفِّقا

And your clouds rain down heavily, ever pouring

If the dawn smiles, greeting your face,

فإن مطَلَ الإصْباحُ حَيّا جَبينُهُ

وإنْ أخْلَفَتْ سُحْبُ الحَيا جودُهُ سَقَى

And if rain-giving clouds fail, your generosity still waters

Life - for those who implored; death - for those who transgressed;

حياةُ من اسْتجْدَى وهُلْكُ منِ اعتَدَى

وأمْنُ منِ اسْتَعْدى وفوْزُ منِ اتّقَى

Safety - for those who prepared; and success - for those who were pious

You charged forth, rending the dusk before the battle’s meet

غَدا فالقَاً قبْلَ اللّقَا صُبْحَ عزْمِهِ

وأقْدَمَ قبْلَ الجيْشِ للرعْبِ فيَلْقا

And advanced with dread before the army, to strike fear

When you make a good promise, we see you

وإنْ وعَدَ الوعْدَ الجَميلَ رأيتَهُ

علَيْنا وفينا صادِقاً متصَدِّقا

Fulfilling it toward us, truthful and generous

The sword of the best of creation - whenever it separates

أمَوْلَى الوَرى للهِ سيفُكَ كُلّما

يُفرّقُ منْ جمْعِ العِدَى ما بِه التَقَى

The groups of enemies by striking them

Passion is confused in love of glory, and forbearance blames it

يهيمُ بحُبِّ الهامِ والحِلْمُ عاذِلٌ

وبالعَذْلِ لا يزْدادُ إلا تعَشُّقا

Yet with blaming it only increases its ardent love

You brought God's army to Tariq's landing place

وأحْلَلتَ جُنْدَ اللهِ منزِلَ طارِقٍ

فطأطأ منهُ الكُفْرُ رأساً وأطْرَقا

There disbelief bowed its head and bent over

A group showed ingratitude for your blessings

وقد كفرَتْ نعْماكَ فيهِ عِصابةٌ

فأرْعَدَ شيْطانُ الضّلالِ وأبْرَقا

So the devil of misguidance thundered and lightning struck

You have remained a blessing master, bestowing kindness,

ومازِلْتَ موْلىً مُنعِماً مُتفَضّلاً

عَطوفاً رَحيماً بالخلائِقِ مُشْفِقا

Merciful and compassionate to creation, caring

You remain in power the greatest victor,

ومازِلتَ في الأمْلاكِ أعْظمَ قادِرٍ

يُرى مُعْتِباً أهْلَ الجِناياتِ مُعْتِقا

Who sees those guilty of crimes as exonerated

So O meeting point of two seas, think lightly of one

فيا مَجْمَعَ البحرينِ أهْوِنْ بمنْ أتى

يَرومُ لشَمْلِ الدّينِ فيكَ تفرُّقا

Who tries to divide the religion’s unity

He has gone into hiding as the followers of guidance surround him

توارَى وقد حفّتْ به شيعَةُ الهُدى

وأضْحى بهِ جُندُ العزائِمِ مُحْدِقا

And the army of resolute determination closes in tight

He has lost the path of righteousness, not knowing his value,

وضلَّ طريقَ الرُّشْدِ لا درّ دَرُّهُ

فلمْ يُلْفَ إلا ساهِرَ الجفْنِ مُطْرِقا

So none remains save the sleepless, head bowed

Whoever divides from his war, halting when he sees

فمِن فرَقٍ عنْ حرْبِه كفَّ إذ رأى

يَدَ اللهِ تعْلو منهُ بالسّيفِ مَفْرِقا

The hand of God raised above him with the sword

We wonder at those who contended with you, seeking might

عجِبْنا لمَن ناواكَ يبْغي تعَزُّزاً

ولمْ يُلْفَ من قَيْدِ المَذلّةِ مُطْلَقا

Yet were unable to free themselves from the shackles of humiliation

Can one hope for a day to cause unrest in the country

أيأمُلُ يوْماً في البِلادِ تقَلُّباً

وقد رُدَّ عنْها عانيَ القلبِ مُوثَقا

When its protector's heart has been secured, bound?

Can a traitor carry the banners of victory

وهلْ يعْقِدُ الرّاياتِ للنّصْرِ غادِرٌ

وقدْ حلّ عهْداً للوَفاءِ ومَوْثِقا

When he has made a covenant of loyalty, bound tight?

It is as though time itself recites verses, eloquently proclaiming:

كأن بِلِسانِ الدّهرِ يُنْشِدُ مُفْصِحاً

تبَدَّدَ جمْعُ المُعْتَدي وتفَرَّقا

“The group of transgressors has scattered and divided”

Oh, delight your eyes by observing the group

ألا متِّعوا الأحداقَ في الفِئةِ التي

أحاطَ بها رَيْبُ المَنونِ وأحْدَقا

That inevitable death has encircled and besieged

The Caliph's governors came from all around

أتى أوْلياءُ المُلْكِ من كُلِّ جانِبٍ

يَؤمّونَ غَيْثاً من نوالِكَ مُغْدِقا

Pouring abundant rain from your clouds, overflowing

They were as brave as al-Kamil facing the tumult

وجَدّوا كما جَدَّ الكَميّ لدَى الوَغى

وقدْ هزّ مصْقولَ الغِرارَيْنِ أزْرَقا

Having put to flight the polished tips of slim swords

The Murids and Tujjins and all those who strive

مَرينٌ وتُجّينٌ وكُلُّ مُجاهِدٍ

من العُرْبِ إنْ يَلْقَ العِدَى تُلْفِها لَقا

Meet the enemy and defeat them in battle

And the noble prayers of each sharif

وكُل شريفِ المُنتَمى دَعَواتُهُ

منَ اللهِ تُدْني حينَ تَبْعُدُ مُرْتَقى

That draw near to God keep climbing, rising high

By your side are commanders that one would think

وللهِ قُوّادٌ لديْكَ تخالُهُمْ

لدى الرّوْعِ أسْبَى للعُداةِ وأسْبَقا

When war intensifies, are quicker to round up captives

If an ungrateful family has abandoned your blessings

وإنْ خذَلَتْ نُعْماك في القومِ أُسْرَةٌ

فما أحْقَرَ المَسْعى وأخْفى وأخْفَقا

How despicable their effort, and how lowly their outcome!

Yours is the glory - do not care, as the Sublime desired,

لكَ العِزُّ لا تحْفِلْ كما شاءَتِ العُلى

بمَنْ دَحَضَتْ رِجْلاهُ في درَكِ الشّقا

for one whose feet stumbled into the pit of misery

None can match the one you have sent and victory is his provisions,

ولا مِثْلَ من أرْسلْتَ والنّصْرُ خِدْنُهُ

ورقّيْتَهُ أوْجَ الخِلافةِ فارْتَقى

Whom you have raised to the highest office, climbing

Installing him a place of glory and sublime abode

وأحْلَلْتَهُ منْ منزِل العِزّ والعُلَى

جَناباً مَريعاً مُعْجِبَ الحسْنِ ريّقا

Of awe, of beauty that captivates, fine and good

You have attacked the enemies through him, baring swords

نضَيْتَ على الأعْداءِ منهُ مُشهَّراً

وأرْسَلْتَ من نجْلَيْهِ سهْمَيْنِ فُوِّقا

And shot two arrows from his bows, straight and true

So may the Merciful frustrate the efforts of those hostile

فلا أنْجَحَ الرّحْمنُ مسْعَى مُعانِدٍ

إذا خَفَقَتْ أعلامُ نَصْرِكَ أخْفَقا

If the flags of your victory are brought down low

No sword you unsheathe falters, no arrow you shoot

ولا فَلَّ سيْفاً قد سلَلْتَ مُشَهَّراً

ولا ردّ سَهْماً قد رمَيْتَ مُفَوَّقا

fails to strike its lofty target true

You have restored the Western realm when its West fell

تلافَيْتَ مُلْكَ الغربِ إذ فُلَّ غَرْبُهُ

وجدّدتَهُ من بعْدِ ما كان أخْلَقا

And have renewed it after it had nearly perished

You sent it, submissive to conquest, floating vessels

وجرّدتَها مِلْءَ العُيونِ سوانِحاً

تُباهي بها زُهْرَ الكواكبِ سُبَّقا

To compete with celestial stars vying in their fleet course

The seas part before them when they sail

وأرسلْتَها طوْعَ الفُتوحِ سوابحاً

كرَكْبِ السُّرى يُبْدي جِياداً وأيْنُقا

As destiny has prevented their separation and divide

They pull the people’s hands among them, grasping oars,

يفِرُّ لديْها الماءُ في حالِ جرْيهِ

وقدْ منعَ المِقْدارُ أن يتفرَّقا

As the gentle breeze draws the branches of the náqa tree

How many sails, shaded with lions, then folded back like

وتجْذُبُ أيْدي القوْمِ منها مجاذِفاً

كما جذَبَتْ ريحُ الصّبا غُصُنَ النّقا

Clouds appearing and disappearing each time they lower and rise

You would see the gaze turn away after its journey

وكم من شراعٍ ظلّلَ الأُسْدَ فانثَنى

سَحاباً وغاباً كُلَّما انحطّ وارْتَقى

As the bereaved gazelle turned, enchanted by desire

You would think it a frightened oryx amidst the fray

ترى الجَفْنَ منها ينْثَني بعْدَ سَيْرِه

كما التفَتَ الحادِي هوىً وتشوُّقا

That has turned away in fear, then paused, staring ahead

And this is the book of the Opening, reaching you

فتَحْسِبُهُ في مَهْمَهٍ ظبيَ مَكْنِسٍ

تولّى نُفوراً ثمْ أصْغى مُحَدِّقا

Verifying the beautiful composition made for you

Bringing good tidings in the truest manner

وهذا كتابُ الفتْحِ وافاكَ للذي

لدَيْكَ من الصُّنْعِ الجَميلِ مُصَدِّقا

And most wondrous news and sweetest words

The train carries from it the most honorable traits

أتاكَ من البُشْرى بأصْدَقَ حُجّةً

وأعْجَبَ إخْباراً وأعْذَبَ مَنطِقا

So I have delighted in the beautiful mention, overflowing

The noon hour has arrived, and you have fulfilled its right

تحمّل منها الرّكْبُ أكْرَمَ شيمةٍ

فأشأمَ بالذّكْرِ الجَميلِ وأعْرَقا

Even if the quarter of the realm was the furthest destination

Secure it will be returned, as you have come a victor

وقد أقْبلَ الأضحى فوفّيْتَ حقّهُ

وإن كان ربْعُ المُلْكِ أبْعَدَ مُلْتَقى

To restrain Mansur and pardon the successful one

Beneath you, my Master, lies a brilliant pearl

سترْجِعُ مأموناً وقدْ جِئْتَ ناصِراً

تُواخِذُ منْصوراً وتعْفو مُوَفَّقا

That has filled from your ocean's abundance, pouring forth

I would plunge into it, praising you ceaselessly

ودونَكَ يا مَوْلايَ دُرّاً مُفَصّلاً

قدِ احْتلّ منْ جَدْواكَ بَحْراً تدَفّقا

Not to string it in necklaces or thread it in order

I love that my praises of you have a composition

أغوصُ عليْهِ للمدائِحِ فيكَ لا

لِيُنظمَ في مَثْنى العُقودِ ويُنْسَقا

And good only lies in my appearing from it to spend

You have watered the soil of my thoughts and kindled its fire

أُحِبُّ منَ الأمْداحِ ما فيكَ نظْمُهُ

وما البِرُّ إلا أنْ أُرَى منهُ مُنْفِقا

So my tinder caught flame and my garden bore fruit

You have granted, elevating your servant, bestowing favor

سَقَيتَ رُبَى فِكْري وأذْكَيْتَ نارَهُ

فزَنْدي قد أوْرَى ورَوضيَ أوْرَقا

So may your mercy upon us pour or facilitate pouring

If you meet my praises by listening

وهَبْتَ وقد رفّعْتَ عبْدَكَ مُنْعِماً

فرُحْماكَ فينا منْفِقاً أو مُنَفِّقا

Then one like you has ascended, and one like me can ascend

Far from time to ever make me bow, after

إذا أنتَ بالإصْغاءِ قابَلْت مِدْحَتي

فمِثْلُك مَن رقّى ومثْلِيَ من رَقا

You have shaded it with a halo of mighty glory

You remain, upholding God’s religion, raising its edifice

وهَيْهاتَ للأيّامِ أخْضَعُ بعدَما

تَفيّأتَهُ دَوْحاً من العِزّ مُونِقا

And it congratulates you on glad tidings; may your permanence endure!

بَقيتَ لدينِ اللهِ تُعْلي جَنابَهُ

وهُنِّئْتَها بُشْرى ودامَ لك البَقا
