1. Welcome—a piece of verse, lovely to behold!

For every heart has yearned toward her and hearkened to her.

  2. A noble lady, she stole away the mind when she appeared,

her radiance putting the sun’s light to shame whenever it rose.

  3. A peerless man brought her forth; his virtues have become such

that eloquent tongues fall weary before fully describing their utmost reach.

  4. So my fingers shall never shrink from numbering them all,

nor shall my tongue speak vainly when it praises him.

  5. Had even Saḥbān sought to rival his eloquence,

or tried to attain even a part of it, he would never have reached it.

  6. May he remain, as long as days endure, a dawn of guidance,

winning whatever he seeks against whoever wrongs him.
