مُحيّاكَ يهْدي فجْرُهُ المتوَضِّحُ

فمَرْآهُ للأبْصارِ مرْقىً ومطْمَحُ

Your morning glow guides, radiant and hopeful,

Your palm makes the clouds rain their bounty bashfully

وكفُّكَ تسْتَجْدي العفاةُ سَحابَها

فتُخْجِلُ صوْبَ الغادِياتِ وتَفْضَحُ

Putting to shame the passing clouds and exposing them.

When a cloud moves or a banner sways,

إذا ما غَمامٌ سارَ أو علَمٌ رَسا

فمِنْكَ النّدى والحِلْمُ أرْجى وأرْجَحُ

You are the dew and the forbearance, the best and the weightiest.

If rain pours or dawn peeks,

وإنْ صابَ غيثٌ أو تطلّعَ نيّرٌ

فقَدْرُك أسْمى أو عطاياكَ أسْمَحُ

Your decree is the highest, or your gifts the most generous.

The creation whose meadow of virtues

خلائِقُ ما روْضُ المكارِمِ عندَها

هَشيمٌ ولا مرْعَى الأماني مُصوِّحُ

Is not weeds, nor is the pasture of hopes cleaned up.

Your heights in the battle swoop as if they are

عَواليكَ في الهَيْجاءِ تَهْوي كأنّها

كَواكِبُ في لَيْلٍ من النّقْعِ جُنَّحُ

Stars in the darkness of conflict, winged.

Their brilliance at the battleground are stars

أشِعّتُها في مُلْتَقى الحرْبِ أنجُمٌ

بلَيْلٍ عَجاجٍ عن مُحيّاكَ يُصْبِحُ

In a turbulent night, proclaiming you at dawn.

When the stirred darkness clears up you’d think them

إذا ما انجَلى النقْعُ المُثارُ حسبْتَها

أزاهِرَ في خُضْرِ الرُّبى تتفتّحُ

Flowers blooming in the green thickets.

The winds of victory blow and war kindles,

تهُبُّ رياحُ النّصْرِ والحرْبُ تلْتَظي

فتنفَحُ هذي حيثُ هاتيكَ تلْفَحُ

This one flares up when that one sparks.

They sweep over the land of polytheism, impregnable,

تمُرُّ بربْعِ الشّرْكِ غيرَ لَواقِحٍ

فتَسْقي ثَراهُ والعوامِلُ تسْفَحُ

Watering its expanse while schemes pour.

I imagine its singer and every monotheist

كأنّي بمَغناهُ وكُلُّ موَحِّدٍ

يُهلّلُ في أرْجائِهِ ويُسبِّحُ

Glorifying in its regions and chanting praises.

While the enemies rise above the resting place as if they are

وهامُ العِدَى تعْلو النّجيعَ كأنّها

حَبابٌ بمَتْنِ اللُجِّ يَطْفو ويطفَحُ

Foam on the surface of a tumultuous sea, overflowing.

About the victorious caliph Yusuf

عنِ النّاصرِ الموْلَى الخَليفةِ يوسُفٍ

تُرَوّى أحاديثُ العُلَى وتُصَحّحُ

Noble accounts are narrated and authenticated.

His qualities are like a garden whose north wind

شمائِلُهُ كالرّوْضِ هبّتْ شمالُهُ

فأزْهارُهُ غِبّ الغَمائِمِ تنْفَحُ

Blows so its flowers bloom in the absence of clouds.

If the horizon clears he is the most gentle of temper,

إذا جادَ أفْقٌ فهْوَ أنْدى سَجيّةً

وإن لاحَ صُبْحٌ فهْو أجْلى وأوضَحُ

and if dawn breaks he is the brightest and most lucid.

His palm combines the sword and outreach,

وتجمَعُ بينَ السيفِ والسّيْبِ كفُّهُ

فتَمْنَعُ عن أقصى البِلادِ وتمْنَحُ

It prevents the furthest regions and bestows.

When preventing with bestowal, his generosity engages him

يُناجيهِ عندَ المنْعِ بالمنْحِ جُودُهُ

فيسمَعُ ما تُلْقي عُلاهُ ويسْمَحُ

So the Most High's accounts are heard and pardoned.

You see the line and lineage willingly obeying his right hand

ترى الخَطّ والخَطّيَّ طوْعَ يَمينِه

أزاهِرَ دوْحٍ قُضْبُهُ تترنّحُ

Like flexible branches of sandalwood trees swaying.

Indeed he is the caliph Yusuf, the imam of guidance,

ألا إنهُ مَولَى الخلائِفِ يوسُفٌ

إمامُ الهُدى الفذُّ الأغرُّ المُمَدّحُ

The excellent, virtuous, and celebrated one.

An imam surpassing the times in warding off enemies

إمامٌ يفوقُ الدّهْرَ صرْفاً على العِدَى

ويعْفو عن الذنْبِ العظيمِ ويصْفَحُ

And in forgiving major sins and pardoning.

Every defiant one acknowledged his superiority

أقرّ لهُ بالفضلِ كُلُّ معانِدٍ

فقرّتْ عُيونُ المؤمِنينَ وأفْلَحوا

So the eyes of the faithful shone and they succeeded.

You regarded the kingdom of the West, O king of guidance,

نظَرتَ لمُلْكِ الغرْبِ يا مَلِكَ الهُدى

بما الرّأيُ أنْجى فيهِ والقصْدُ أنجَحُ

With the most prudent opinion and proper aim.

And you harbored, willfully, a latent determination

وأضْمرْتَ طوْعَ الحِلْمِ كامِنَ عزْمَةٍ

إلى أنْ تجلّى فجرُها المُتوَضِّحُ

Until its radiant dawn emerged illuminated.

So a wretched one despaired, you pulled his reins

فخابَ شقيٌّ قد ثنَيْتَ عَنانَهُ

غَداةَ انثَنى في غَيّهِ وهْو يجمَحُ

When he slanted in his misguidance and insisted.

You cast the light of guidance on the night of his misguidance

رمَيْتَ بنورِ الهَدْي ليْلَ ضلالِه

فَلا فجْرُهُ منْ بعْدِها يتوضّحُ

So after it his dawn cannot become illuminated.

You defended the religion of God while it was on the verge

تلافَيْتَ دينَ اللهِ وهْو على شَفاً

يعرّضُ بالإتْلافِ ثُمَّ يُصرِّحُ

Of being ruined, then you declared explicitly.

The cities became expectant that the sparks of fear in them

وأمّلَتْ تمْهيدَ البِلادِ وإنّها

ليُذْكَى زِنادُ الخَوْفِ فيها ويُقْدَحُ

Would be struck and ignited.

Can someone made great with a kingdom aspire to it

وإن الذي بالمُلكِ عزّ لَصاغِرٌ

أيَطمَعُ فيه أو لمَرْقاهُ يطْمَحُ

Or yearn for its heights?

Does he seek a way to salvation while forbidden?

يرومُ سَبيلاً للنّجاةِ مُمَنَّعاً

أيُنْجِدُهُ القَصْدُ الذي ليسَ يُنْجِحُ

Can the improper aim that does not succeed save him?

Alas! In his hands is the sharp slicing sword and he recoiled

نَبا في يديْهِ الصّارمُ الصّلْتُ وانثَنى

عنِ القَصْدِ فيه الذّابِلُ المُترنِّحُ

From the improper aim, while the fading one sways.

And whoever willingly submitted faith to polytheism,

ومَن أسلَمَ الإيمانَ للشّرْكِ عامِداً

أيُفْلِتُ من قيْدِ الهَوانِ ويُفْلِحُ

Can he escape the shackles of humiliation and succeed?

The bonds of Islam became undone in the treaty of his peace

وحلّ عُرَى الإسْلامِ في عَقْدِ سَلْمِهِ

غَداةَ انثَنى طوْعاً لها وهْوَ يجْنَحُ

When he willfully bent to it and inclined.

Glorious are the feats that no eloquent one can encompass describing,

صنائِعُ جلّتْ أنْ يُحيطَ بوَصْفِها

بَليغٌ ولا في روضِها الفِكْرُ يسْرَحُ

Nor does the mind range freely in its meadow.

In them, wisdom was misplaced for a while,

وقد كان فيها الحزمُ ضُيِّعَ بُرْهَةً

وصُدّقَ فيها الماكِرُ المُتَنصِّحُ

And the insincere advisor was believed.

You then supported one whom you granted victory,

فدارَكْتَ مَنْ أوْلَيتَهُ النّصْرَ مُنْعِماً

بعزْمٍ يَفوقُ الرّاسِياتِ ويَرْجَحُ

With determination surpassing firm mountains and outweighing.

And men of your soldiers, whenever

وأُسْدِ رِجالٍ منْ جُنودِكَ كلّما

أُزيحُوا عنِ الهَيْجاءِ لمْ يتزَحْزَحوا

They were removed from the battle they did not waver.

Battalions sending you letters

كتائِبُ تُلْقي عندَ بابِكَ كُتْبُها

منَ النّصْرِ والتأييدِ ما ليسَ يُشْرَحُ

Of continuous victory and support, beyond description.

It's as if their staffs at war

كأنَّ مذاكيها لدى الحرْبِ ترتَمي

ظِباءً على كُثْبانِ رامةَ تسْنَحُ

Charge like gazelles over sand dunes.

They take the enemy by surprise while standing firm

تخِفُّ إلى الأعداءِ وهْيَ ثوابِتٌ

وتخْتالُ زهْواً في مَداها وتمْرَحُ

And they strut proudly in their posts and frolic.

When looking down they are gazelles, and if

إذا استشْرَفَتْ فهْيَ الظّباءُ وإن بدَتْ

لها غرَرٌ فهْيَ الكواكِبُ تُلْمَحُ

Deceptions appear, they are the visible stars.

Moreover, these when preceding the enemy

على أنّ هذي حيثُ تسبِقُ للعِدى

وتبدو بليْلِ النّقْعِ أسْنى وأسْنَحُ

And emerging in the darkness of conflict, are more compassionate.

Your eminent presence, your mighty threshold,

وحضْرتُكَ العَلياءُ عزّ جَنابُها

حَديثُ عُلاها مُسْنَدٌ ومُصحَّحُ

Its lofty accounts are verified and authenticated.

It established an era where no

أقامتْ زماناً ليسَ تُطْلِعُ من سَنا

مُحيّاكَ بَدْراً نورُه يتوضّحُ

Radiant morning glow emerged from its brilliance illuminated,

Until you arrived now, the halo of its horizon,

إلى أن حلَلْتَ الآن هالَةَ أُفْقِها

كما راقَ من شمْسِ الصّباحِ تَوضُّحُ

As the radiance of the morning sun emerged.

The keen sighted saw your mirror then,

لقد أبْصر القُصّادُ مرْآكَ عندَها

فللْعَيْنِ والآمالِ مرْمىً ومَلْمَحُ

So sights and hopes have a goal and destination.

Good tidings to them for seeing your omen

فبُشْرى لهُمْ أنْ أبْصروا بشْرَك الذي

يُترْجِمُ عن نيْلِ الأماني ويُفْصِحُ

Which conveys the fulfillment of wishes and explains.

And good tidings of a feast day returning

وبُشْرى بهِ عيداً يعودُ بكلِّ ما

إلى نيْلِه الآمالُ تسْمو وتَطْمَحُ

With all that hopes can aspire and reach.

It came to you while ardor waned its crescent

أتاكَ وقدْ شفّ الغرامُ هِلالَهُ

وأنحَلَهُ الشّوْقُ الحَثيثُ المُبَرِّحُ

And passionate yearning dissolved and rejoiced.

The month of fasting bid farewell to the most generous

وودّعَ شهْرُ الصّومِ أكْرَمَ ظاعِنٍ

يروّي أحاديثَ العُلَى ويُصحّحُ

Declining, narrating lofty accounts and validating.

It passed while praising you for what you deserve,

نأى وهْوَ يُثْني بالذي أنت أهْلُهُ

وعنْدَ جَميل الذكْرِ يُمْسي ويُصْبِحُ

Spending mornings and evenings in your good mention.

It implores you for protection of the religion and life,

يُرجّيكَ للدّنْيا وللدّينِ عصْمَةً

لديْها غَدا حُكْمَ المُقامِ يُرجّحُ

At whose judgment decisive authority lies ahead.

And whoever befriends faith, knowledge and piety,

ومن ألفَ الإيمانَ والعِلمَ والتُقَى

ونيْلَ المعالي والنّدى كيف يبْرَحُ

And seeking sublime objectives and brilliance, how can he vanish?

You were congratulated one day, most virtuous, in a season

فهُنّئتَهُ يوماً أغرَّ وموْسِماً

غدَتْ فيه أبوابُ القَبولِ تُفَتَّحُ

Where the gates of acceptance have opened.

I composed it from the sea of my thoughts into pearls

ودونَكها منْ بحْرِ فكري لآلِئاً

بمَنْظومِها جيدُ العُلى يتوشّحُ

Adorning excellent sublime verses.

Abstinence is adorned with descriptions as if it were a garden

تروقُ النُّهى وصْفاً كأنّ حديقَةً

بها للصّبا مَسْرىً وللعينِ مسْرَحُ

For youth a meadow, and for the eyes a range.

When God praised you in His Book,

إذا اللهُ قد أثْنَى عليْكَ كتابُهُ

بماذا عَسى يُثْني البَليغُ ويمْدَحُ

What more can the eloquent elaborate and praise?

So what expression about your sublime qualities can inform?

فأيُّ بيانٍ عن معاليكَ مُنْبِئٌ

وأيُّ لِسانٍ عن صِفاتِكَ مُفْصِحُ

And what tongue about your traits can articulate?

Among your blessings is the dawn of guidance

على أنّ من نعْماكَ صُبْحَ هِدايةٍ

يُبينُ ليَ النّهْجَ القَويمَ ويوضِحُ

Clarifying the straight path for me and elucidating.

It adorns me with the turtle dove's collar, bestowing favor,

تطوّقُني طوْقَ الحمامَةِ منعِماً

فأُصْبحُ في روضِ المدائِحِ أصْدَحُ

So I become generous in the meadow of eulogies.

In prose it has for the meanings eulogies,

فللنّثْرِ منها في المعاني مَدائِحٌ

وبالدُّرِّ منها للغَواني توَشُّحُ

And in verse for melodies it adorns.

Every monotheist supplicated for your support,

دَعا لكَ بالتأييدِ كُلّ مُوَحّدٍ

لذلكَ أبْوابُ السّماءِ تُفَتَّحُ

Thus the gates of heaven opened.

And pilgrims supplicate for you wherever

وتدْعو لكَ الرُكْبان حيث يَضُمُّها

مَقامٌ ورُكْنٌ يسْتَلامُ وأبْطَحُ

They stand and settle, and touch and settle upon.

So you are immortalized wherever the pilgrims went to Mina

فخُلِّدتَ ما سارَ الحَجيجُ إلى مِنىً

وما هلّلوا بالذّكْرِ فيه وسبّحوا

And wherever they pronounced the mention and praised.
