1. لا تَحقِرَن عالِماً وَإِن خَلِقَت

    أَثوابُهُ في عُيونِ رامِقِهِ

    Do not belittle a scholar though his clothes

    In a beholder’s eyes seem worn and frayed

  2. وَاِنظُر إِلَيهِ بِعَينِ ذي خَطَرٍ

    مُهَذَّبِ الرَأيِ في طَرائِقِهِ

    But look on him with a keen, discerning sight

    Of refined intellect and wisdom’s way

  3. فَالمِسكُ إِذا ما تَراهُ مُمتَهَناً

    بِفِهرِ عَطّارِهِ وَساحِقِهِ

    For musk when lying trod in perfumers’ floors

    Still holds the throne and crown from its birthplace

  4. سَوفَ تَراهُ بِعارِضَي مَلكٍ

    وَمَوضِعِ التاجِ مِن مَفارِقِهِ
