أقولُ وقد لاحَ الهلالُ مُغَرِّباً
وَيا ليتهُ في الأفق غيرُ مُغَرِّبِ
I say, as the crescent appears, setting in the west:
Would that it were not setting on the horizon!
ثَقيلٌ هلالُ الصّوم أنتَ على أمرئ
وليسَ عَجيباً هكذا كل مُغرِبي
O crescent of the fast, how heavily you weigh upon a man—
And no wonder: every Maghrebi is like that.
