لمتُ لمَا أرادَ منّي
وقد بالبدورِ الطوالِعْ
I refused what he wanted from me
Though the full moons had risen
قالَ دَعني منَ الملامِ فإنّي
لَستُ ما عِشْتُ للملامِ بِسامِعْ
He said, leave off blaming me, for I
Have never, whilst I lived, listened to blame
كيفَ أرضى دينَ اليهودِ
حيثُ لي بالنِّساء دينٌ واسع
How can I please the Jewish faith
When for me, women are a broad faith
