لي عَدُوُّ يقومُ منِّي بلا رِجلٍ
مَقامَ المحيِّرِ المرتابِ
I have an enemy who stands without legs
In the stance of the perplexed doubter
باكياً كالمصابِ أبكي عَليْهِ
وعناء صلاحٌ عَقْلِ المصابِ
Crying like the stricken, I cry over him
And grief is wholesome for the mind of the stricken
كل يومٍ أنكيهِ جلداً إلى أنْ
قد غدا قائماً بغيرِ إهابِ
Every day I afflict him with flogging until
He stands erect without effort
جَلدْهُ هَيْنٌ ولا أجلدُ الحد
د على تِلكُمُ الأمورِ الصّعابِ
Flogging him is easy, I do not flog the iron
