I fell for her, a gazelle from the wilderness herd,
Yet Arab in her lineage.
Do not glance at her—she may well steal
Your heart while you remain unaware.
Go on your way—for indeed her eye
Has outdone in Babel the wine of sorcery.
Ask about those eyes a youth afflicted by them,
One like me, and learn the truth of the matter.
Brandish the swords—of death were they forged:
They carve away hearts, and seldom cure.
