الوحي بالشرعِ قد سُدَّت مغالقه

وليس يُنكر ذا إلاّ الذي كفرا

The revelation of religious law, its intricacies are closed

None would deny it except a defiant infidel

لم يبقَ منه سوى ما الشخصُ يدركه

في نومه أو بكشفٍ هكذا ظهرا

Nothing remains of it except what a person perceives

In their sleep or through an unveiling thus appearing

وليس يدركه من غيرِ صورته

إلا هنا ولهذا حاز مَنْ عَبَرا

None can perceive it without its form

Except here and thus whoever crosses over attains

علماً صحيحاً من الرحمن بشرُه

به المهيمنُ في رؤياه إنْ شَكَرا

True knowledge from the Merciful, good tidings

With which the Guardian blesses him in his vision if he gives thanks

وفيه مزجٌ رقيقٌ ليس يعرفه

إلا الذي يعرف الآياتِ والسورا

In it there is a subtle blending, none knows it

Except one who knows the verses and suras

فينزلُ الشيءَ في رؤياه منزلةً

بآية فهي قرآنٌ لمن نظرا

So the thing descends to him in his vision in the status

Of a verse thus it is Quran for whoever observes

في جمعها والذي تحويه من عبّرٍ

وحيا ًصحيحاً لنا به القضاءُ جرى

In compiling it and that which contains of expression

And true inspiration through which judgment flowed for us

فاسلك طريقتنا إنْ كنتَ ذا نظرٍ

ولا تعرِّجْ بنا إنْ كنتَ معتبرا

So follow our path if you are of insight

And do not deviate with us if you are a person of reason

قد يخطىءُ العابرُ الرؤيا يعبرها

وقد يصيبُ كما رويته خبرا

The passerby may err in interpreting his vision

Or get it right as I have narrated reports

عن النبي رسولِ الله سيِّدِنا

فيما تأوَّله الصديقُ لو عثروا

About the Prophet, Messenger of God our Master

In what the Truthful one interpreted though they stumbled

أصاب بعضاً وأخطى بعضها وبذا

أتى الحديث الذي رويته أثرا

He got some right and missed some and thereby

Came the hadith I narrated trace

إني نذرتُ وما في النذر من حَرَجٍ

بذلُ الذي ملكتْ كفِّي من المهَجِ

I have vowed and there is no blame in a vow

I will give what my palm possesses of sacrifice

لوجه ربي إنْ جاد الإله على

قلبي بمعرفةِ الأوزانِ والدرجِ

For my Lord’s sake if God is generous to

My heart with knowledge of measures and degrees

في العلمِ بالله إلا بالغير انّ لنا

نفساً قد اعتادتِ التنزيه في الفرج

In knowledge of God but through others for we have

A soul accustomed to glorification during separation

ما بين أطباقِ أفلاكٍ مزينة

بزينة الله في التأديبِ والدَّلجِ

Between layers of ornamented spheres

With God’s ornamentation in discipline and splendor

إني أسير إليه وهو يطلبني

في كلِّ حالٍ بسرٍّ غيرِ منزعج

I travel to Him while He seeks me

In every state with an untroubled mystery

وذاك أني في سيري أشاهده

بسير بي نحو ذاتي سيرَ مبتهج

That is because in my journey I witness Him

Traveling to my essence a journey of joy

في كلِّ حالٍ فيفنيني مشاهدة

عني وما عندنا في ذاك من حَرَجِ

In every state so witnessing Him makes me oblivious

To myself and what lies with us regarding that contains no objection

لم يبقَ عقلٌ ولا حسٌّ أحسُّ به

فيرحم الغصنَ ما في اللدنِ من عِوَجِ

No intellect remains nor senses I feel with

So He may have mercy on the branch whatever crookedness lies in it

أو مت إليَّ وقد ظلتْ محفتها

بكفها والذي في الطرف من غنج

Or I died to myself while His protection

Kept me in His palm and that which lies in subtlety

لا تركبنَّ بحاراً لستَ تعرفها

فقد تلاطمتِ الأمواجُ في اللجج

Do not sail seas you do not know

For the waves have clashed in the depths

واثبت على السيفِ إن السيفَ مرحمةٌ

ولا تَوسَّط فإنَّ الهلكَ في الثبج

Hold fast to the sword for the sword brings mercy

And do not compromise for ruin lies in concession

قد ضقتُ ذرعاً بما تأتي شِكايته

فهل لديكم بما يشكوه من فَرَجِ

I have been sorely vexed by that whose complaint comes to me

Is there with you any relief for what it complains of?
