1. All things race headlong toward their appointed ends;

    therefore, among them, some surpass others.

  2. These are turbans that enwrap the whole cosmos,

    distinguishing neither supererogatory acts nor obligatory ones.

  3. Mystic taste, in straitness and in ease, is known

    only to one who thereby lends God a loan.

  4. Thus, through it, he dwells throughout the length of the Gardens;

    from Him and from his own soul, he may inhabit their breadth.

  5. None attains glory in this world or the Hereafter

    who turns water into fire and air into earth.
