1. إذا نزل الأمرُ العزيزُ من السما

    ويعرجُ فيها معجمُ الحرفِ مبهما

    When the mighty command descends from the sky,

    And the lexicon of letters rises in it, obscure,

  2. ويولج في الأرضِ الغذاء لترتوي

    فيخرج منها الزهرَ وشياً منمنما

    And it inserts into the earth nourishment to quench its thirst,

    Then flowers and herbs sprout from it, thriving,

  3. مصابيحُ أنوارٍ الكواكبِ زينةٌ

    لها ورجوماً للشياطين كلما

    The lamps of starlight are adornment for it,

    As well as missiles for the demons whenever

  4. أرادوا استراقَ السمعِ من كلِّ جانبٍ

    فيحرقهم منها شهابٌ تبسَّما

    They attempt to stealthily listen in from every side,

    Then a flaming meteor burns them, smiling,

  5. ويجعلُ ما يعلو على الأرضِ زينةً

    لها فالذي يبدو إلى العين منه ما

    And He makes what rises above the earth adornment for it,

    So what appears to the eye of it is what

  6. يغذي به الرحمن جسماً مروحَنا

    كما قد يغذي منه رُوحاً مجسَّماً

    The Merciful feeds our perfumed bodies with,

    Just as He feeds from it a embodied soul,

  7. فقلتُ ومن غذاها من سمائه

    فقيل لنا عيسى المسيحُ بنُ مريما

    So I said: And who fed it from His heavens?

    And it was said to us: Jesus the Messiah, son of Mary,

  8. له الامتزاجُ الصرفُ من روحِ كاتبٍ

    بديوانه لما تحلَّى بآدما

    To him belongs the pure merging of the soul of a scribe

    With his registry when he was adorned with Adam,

  9. فروحَن أجساماً وجسم أنفساً

    وكان له التحكيم أيان يمما

    So he embodied souls and spirited bodies

    And to him belonged the judgment whenever he intended,

  10. فلم أر سبطاً كان يشبه جدَّه

    سواه كما قال المهيمن معلما

    So I did not see a cousin who resembled his grandfather

    Except him, as the Guardian said, teaching:
