ترجمانُ الأشواق

عرَّفني بالكريمِ الخلاّقِ

Interpreter of yearnings

Introduced me to the Generous Creator

للإله الحقِّ

همتي في السَّبق

To the True God

My ambition to excel

بخيولِ الصدق

لم تنل باستحقاق

With the horses of truth

Did not attain by right

هذا الذي أودعت في الأوراقِ

من حلوم جلّتْ

This which I deposited in the papers

Of gentle words that

في قلوب صلّت

عن هواها ولّت

Melted in hearts that prayed

Turning from their passions

لم تنل بالإملاق

إلا الذي عندها من إشفاق

Did not attain by hopeful gaze

Except that which was in them of compassion

هو فضلٌ منهُ

قد أخذنا عنه

It is a bounty from Him

We took from Him

إن يكن هو كره

واعتمد في الأرزاق

If He be unwilling

And relied for sustenance

على الإله الكريمِ الخلاق

يا إله الخلقِِ

On the Generous Creator

O God of creation

إن عدلت استبق

فأنا في المحق

If I am equitable in outpacing

Then I am in the right

فلتجد بالإنفاق

بقدر ما عندنا من إملاقِ

So find with expenditure

As much as we have of hopeful gaze

حكمته الديهور

ظهرت من طور

His eternal wisdom

Appeared from Mount Sinai

عند فقد النور

لولا حكم الإشفاق

Upon loss of the light

If not for the judgment of compassion

ما ظهرت حكمةٌللاشراق

No wisdom would have appeared for daylight
