  1. الوهم يصلح ما الألباب تفسده

    في الحق لكنها ما لوهم تعبدهْ

  2. العقلُ يحكم والأوهام تحكمه

    فيه فتضبطه ولا تحدِّدهْ

    Reason rules and fancies rule it

    Checking it, not defining it

  3. وكيف يحكم عقلٌ قاصراً حدثٌ

    على مكوّنه والعجز مشهده

    How can a finite infant reason

    Rule its maker, feebleness its spectacle?

  4. تنوّع الذات بالأفكار إن لها

    مثل الهيولى ولكن لا تعدّده

    The essence varies in concepts if

    It has a primordial matter but no numbers

  5. يرمي الإله بها من كان عنه به

    وليس يرمي به إلا ويُقصِده

    God casts it at one veiled from Him

    And hits none but the one He intended

  6. العقلُ بالنظر الفكريّ يمسكه

    والكشفُ يرسله ولا يقيده

    Reason in intellectual speculation grasps it

    And revelation sends it unfettered

  7. لو كان للعقلِ حكمٌ في مكوّنه

    لما أتى شرعه وقتاً يفنده

    If reason judged its maker

    No law would come in time to refute it
