الجودُ أولى به والفقر أولى بنا
فكن به لا تكنْ إلاَّ له ولنا
Generosity suits Him, and poverty suits us
So be for Him, be only for Him and for us
ما في الوجودِ سوى فقرٍ وليس له
ضدّ سمونه في الاصطلاحِ غنى
There is nothing in existence but poverty, and it has
No opposite - what they term in terminology: riches
أين الغنى وأنا بالذات أقبلُ ما
يريد تكوينه والكونُ مني أنا
Where are riches when I, in my essence, accept
What He wants to create, and creation is from me
فالكونُ مني ومنه فاعتبر عجباً
هذا الذي قلته قد كان قبل أنا
So creation is from me and from Him; consider well
This wonder I have told you was before me
أنا به كالذي ضربته مثلاً
وإنه بوجود المعتقين بنا
Through Him I am like one I gave as a parable
And through the existence of those loyal to us
قد ارتبطنا لأمر لا انفكاكَ لنا
منه وما منه من نشأتيّ عنا
We have been linked in a matter that has no separation
From Him and what is from Him from my origination from us
مثل النتيجة كان الكونُ عن عدمٍ
ولم يكن عن وجودِ تحمل الأمنا
Like a conclusion - creation was from nothingness
And was not from an existence bearing tranquility
عينُ النكاحِ بدا بالكشف يشهده
بصورتيه ولكنَّ الإله كنى
The essence of marriage appeared, revealing it
In its two images, but God used a metaphor
قد أشرقتْ أرضنا بنور بارئها
كالنفس منه إذا سوّى لها البدنا
Our land shone with the light of its Creator
Like a soul when He proportioned a body for it
والنفسُ في الكونِ عن جسم وعن نفس
جاد الإله به لذاك عللنا
And the soul in creation is from body and from soul
God created it for that reason, so we sought causes
فلم أزل لوجودِ الجودِ أطلبه
فعلةُ الفقرِ فينا علة الزمنا
So I have not ceased seeking His existence for the existence of Bestower
The cause of poverty in us is the cause binding us
لو لم يكن لم أكن لو لم أر لم ير
فالكونُ مني به والعلمُ منه بنا
If He did not exist I would not exist; if I did not see Him He would not see
So creation is from me through Him and knowledge from Him of us
لولا النبيّ صحيحٌ ما أتاك به
نصٌ جليٌ حكاه في القرآنِ لنا
If not for the Prophet, soundly, what he brought you
A clear text he related in the Quran to us
في سورة الأنبياءالزهرِ في زُمُر
أتى بحرفِ امتناعٍ واضحاً علنا
In Surat Al-Anbiya, the Flower, among throngs
He brought a letter of clear refusal to us
هذا الدليلُ على إمكانه ولذا
لو شاء كان اصطفاءٌ منه عنه لنا
This evidence of His possibility and thus
If He willed, choosing would have been from Him from it for us
ولو يكون لصلبٍ كان عن جسد
في ناظر العينِ لم يدرك به غبنا
And if it were to be from loins it would have been from a body
In the onlooker’s eye, no loss would be perceived by us
لقد تجلَّى لقومٍ في منامهمُ
فعاينوه شهوداً منظراً حَسَنا
He was manifested to a people in their dreams
So they saw Him, witnessing, a goodly vision
مثل المعاني التي التجميل جسدها
كالعلم يشربه في نومه لبنا
Like meanings beautified whose bodies
Are like knowledge one drinks in sleep, pure milk to us
