    يزهو به المسعودُ بين الناسِ

    For the soul, wearing piety is the finest attire;

the blessed one shines in it among the people.

The truly noble is the pious, the approved—

not the Hāshimite, nor the sons of al-ʿAbbās—

unless they fear God; then indeed they are

people of noble deeds, generosity, and valor.

I donned it in Homs of al-Andalus, and in the

Noble Sanctuary, in Mecca, and in Fez,

    from masters like suns—imams

whom God honored with the finest attire.

By the guidance of their guides I found my way, for they are

like a lamp in the pitch-dark night.
