1. إذا خَفَقَ النجم السعيدُ بشرقه

    يقولُ لسانُ الحالِ منه بلا امترا

    If the blessed star glimmers in the east

    The state of affairs speaks plainly without pretense

  2. تأمَّلْ حجاباً كان قد حال بيننا

    له مكنة تسمو على ظاهرِ السوا

    Consider a veil that had come between us

    With a position loftier than the apparent summit

  3. خِزانةُ أسرارِ الإله وغيبُه

    ومنبعُ أسرارٍ تراءت لذي حِجى

    The treasury of God's secrets and mysteries

    And the spring of secrets that appeared to the prudent

  4. ركضنا جياد العزمِ في سَبسَبِ التقى

    وقد سترتنا غيرةُ فحمة الدُّجى

    We raced the steeds of resolve in the valley of devotion

    And zeal for the darkness veiled us

  5. وأُبنا بما يُرضي الصَّديقَ فلو ترى

    ركائبُنا للغب تنفخُ في البُرى

    We built with what pleases the friend, so if you could see

    Our ships blowing through the land

  6. علوتُ على نُجُبٍ من السُّمر ضُمَّر

    رقيتُ بها حتى ظهرتْ لمستوى

    I transcended the peaks of lofty summits

    I ascended them until I rose to the level plane

  7. وعاينتُ من علمِ الغيوب عجائباً

    تصانُ عن التذكار في رأي مَن وعى

    And I saw from the knowledge of mysteries wonders

    That are too subtle to mention in the view of the aware

  8. فمِن صادحاتٍ فوق غُصنِ أراكة

    يهجن بلابيل الشَّجيّ إذا دعا

    Of the ones loudly singing above the branch of arak

    The bulbul of passion sings when called

  9. ومن نيِّراتٍ سابلاتٍ ذؤابُها

    أفيضوا علينا النور من قَرصَةِ المهى

    And the supple-bodied gazelles whose softly bending necks

    Poured light upon us from the full moon of desire

  10. ومِن نَقَرِ أوتارٍ بأيدي كواعِب

    عذات الثنايا طاهراتٍ من الخَنا

    And from the melodious strings played by beautiful maidens

    Of chaste contours, pure from blemish

  11. ومن نافثاتِ السِّحر في غسقِ الدجى

    عسى ولعلَّ الدهر يسطو بهم غدا

    And from the enchantresses blowing magic in the dark of night

    Perhaps tomorrow fate will empower them

  12. وقد علموا قطعاً إصابة نفثه

    لكلِ فؤادٍ ضلَّ عن طرق الهدى

    And they knew for certain that their breath would strike

    Every heart that strayed from the path of guidance

  13. دخلتُ قبورِ المؤمنين فلم أجد

    سوى الحُورِ والوِلدان في جنةِ الرضى

    I entered the tombs of the believers but found

    Only the maidens and youths in the garden of bliss

  14. فقلتُ هنيئاً ثم جُزتُ ثمانياً

    من المنزل الأدنى لسدرة منتهى

    So I said "Congratulations!" then I was rewarded eightfold

    From the lowest station to the Lote Tree of the Limit

  15. وقصَّ جناحُ الرَّيبِ من عين مُبصر

    وفضَّ ختامُ المسك في سُجة الضحى

    And the wing of doubt was clipped from the seeing eye

    And the seal of musk was opened at the break of dawn

  16. فيا ليت أن لا أبصر الدهر واحداً

    أُسِرُّ به إلا انقلبت على زكا

    Oh, if only I would never see anyone in this world

    That I'd be secretly pleased with unless they turned to purity

  17. ولما لحظتُ العلم ينهضُ عنوة

    على نجَب الأوراق أيقنتُ بالبقا

    And when I saw knowledge forcibly arising

    Upon the lofty pages I was certain of eternity

  18. وقلتُ لفتيانٍ كرامٍ ألا انزلوا

    على المسجد الأقصى إلى كعبةِ الدما

    And I said to the honorable youths, come down

    To the Furthest Mosque to the Kaaba of blood

  19. وقوموا على بابِ الحبيبِ وبلغوا

    رسالةَ مَنْ لو شاء كان ولا عنا

    And stand at the door of the Beloved and convey

    The message of the one who if he wished would be and not be

  20. فقاموا ونادوا بالحبيبِ وأهله

    سلامٌ على أهلِ الموَّدةِ والصفا

    So they stood and called out to the Beloved and his people

    "Peace be upon the people of affection and loyalty

  21. سلامٌ عليكم منكم إن نظرتم

    بعين مسوّى بين من طاع أو طغى

    Peace be upon you from you if you look

    With an eye leveled between those who obeyed or transgressed"

  22. فقام رئيسُ القومِ يبتدرونه

    رجالٌ أتت أجسامُهم تسكن العلى

    So the leader of the people stood up, they welcomed him

    Men whose bodies settled the Highest Heaven

  23. وقال عليكم مثلُ ما جئتم به

    فقامَ خبيرُ القومِّ يمنحني القِرى

    And he said, "Upon you the like of what you brought"

    So the wise one of the people inclined to me and said

  24. ألا فاسمعوا قولي دعُوا سِرَّ حكمتي

    وهذا دُعائي فاستجيبوا لمن دعا

    "Listen to my words, leave the secret of my wisdom

    And this is my call, so respond to the one who called"
