  1. لما رأيت وجودي ما رأيت عمى

    ولم أزل في عمى منه إلى الأبد

    When I saw my existence, I did not see blindness

    And I have remained in blindness forevermore

  2. إذا يحددني في كلِّ آونة

    فلا أزال مع الأنفاسِ في كبد

    As it defines me at every moment

    So I still exist with every breath, in anguish

  3. كذا أتتنا به الآياتُ ناطقة

    بقافٍ وأنزلها في سورة البلد

    Thus the verses came to us speaking

    In Qaf, and He sent them down in Surat Al-Balad

  4. من فوق سبعِ سمواتٍ منزلةٍ

    على حقيقةِ ذي روح وذي جسد

    From above seven heavens brought down

    Upon the truth of the Spirit and the body

  5. أتى بها تبلغ الأسماعَ دعوته

    عن اذن منزلها ألواحد الصمد

    He brought them to make His call reach the ears

    From the One, the Subduer

  6. فعندما سمعت أذني تلاوته

    بالوهم في قبة قامت على عمد

    So when my ears heard its recitation

    In my imagination a dome was erected on pillars

  7. مربعُ الشكلِ والأملاكُ تحرسه

    من كل ذي حسدٍ والكلُّ ذو حسد

    Square in shape, with angels guarding it

    From all those envious, though all are envious

  8. من جنسه فجميعُ الخلقِ تحسده

    من الملائكةِ العالين بالسَّند

    Of their own kind, so all creation envy Him

    Of the lofty angels, upheld

  9. إن الذي تحت أرض الأرض منزله

    لمحرقون بنور النجم للرصد

    Indeed, He whose abode is beneath the earth

    Is scorched by the starlight observed

  10. لأنه نسخةٌ من كلهم فله

    هذا السفوف فقل خيراً ولا تزد

    For he is a copy of them all, so for him

    Is this canopy - so speak good and do not increase

  11. لما رأيتُ له حكماً على جسدي

    علمت منه الذي ألقاه في خلدي

    When I saw His judgment on my body

    I knew the One who cast it in my eternity

  12. لولا تطابق ألفاظِ الكتابِ على

    عين المعاني لكان الخلقُ في حَيَد

    Were it not for the words of the Book conforming

    To the essence of meanings, creation would be confused

  13. فليس إعجازه إلا نزاهته

    عن الأباطل هذا سرُّه وقد

    So its miracle is only its integrity

    From falsehood - this is its secret, understand

  14. وما سواه فأقوال مزخرفة

    ليست من الخلقِ في شيء فلا تعد

    And anything else is embellished words

    Not from creation, so do not count

  15. إن القرآن لنور يُستضاء به

    يهدي مع السنة المثلى إلى الرشد

    Indeed the Qur'an is a light to illuminate

    Guiding with the excellent Sunnah, to righteousness

  16. فخذ به صعداً إنْ كنتَ في سفل

    وخذ به سفلاً إن كنت في صعد

    So take it ascending if you are low

    And take it descending if you are high
