1. لحدث بنتي بيدي

    لأنها ذو جسدي

    With my own hands I chastise my daughter,

    For she is of my own flesh.

  2. أنا على حكم النوى

    فليس شيءٌ بيدي

    I follow the rule of principles,

    So nothing is in my hands.

  3. مقيد في وقتنا

    ما بين أمسٍ وغدِ

    Trapped in our time,

    Between yesterday and tomorrow.

  4. جسمي لُجين خالصٌ

    حقيقتي من عسجدِ

    My body is purely material,

    My essence is from the One.

  5. كالقوس نشئي ولذا

    عينُ قوامي حيدي

    Like a bow my constitution

    The pupil of my eye deviates.

  6. يقول ربي إنه

    خلقني في كبد

    My Lord says that

    He created me in spirit.

  7. فكيف أرجو راحة

    ما دمت في ذا البلد

    So how can I hope for rest

    As long as I am in this land?

  8. لولاه ما كنتُ أنا

    ذا والدٍ وولد

    Were it not for Him I wouldn't exist

    As one with a father and son.

  9. ولم يكن لي كفؤاً

    كخالقي من أحد

    And none were suited to me

    Like my Creator from anyone.

  10. فالنعتُ نعتٌ واحدٌ

    في عينِ ذاتِ العدد

    Attribution is one thing

    In the eye of the plural self.

  11. وإنني لخالقي

    في خلقنا كالعدد

    And I, to my Creator

    In our creation, am like a number.

  12. فحل إلهي بيننا

    في الكون لا المعتقد

    So resolve, my God, between us

    In existence, not doctrine.

  13. بنشأةٍ ثابتة

    يصحُّ منها سندي

    With a fixed nature

    From which my evidence stems.

  14. في أنني مثلكمُ

    وأنت لي مستندي

    That I am like you

    And You are my support.

  15. بالفرض لا إني أنا

    مثل وهذا رشدي

    By hypothesis, not that I

    Am an example, and this is my reason.

  16. نفيت عني المثل في

    شورى وذا معتقدي

    I denied the example in

    Consultation, and this is my belief.

  17. وجنتي عالية

    مع الحسانِ الخرّد

    And my paradise is lofty

    With the fine, tiny pearls.

  18. وإنما قال به

    كما لنا في المقصد

    And He only said it

    As we have in purpose.

  19. طبيعةُ الكون له

    أهل وعينُ الأحد

    The nature of the universe is His

    People, and the eye of the One.

  20. بعلٌ لها فاجتمعا

    على وجودي وقد

    A husband to it, so they gathered

    On my existence and did.

  21. ما قلت ذا عن نظر

    قد قام بي في خَلَدي

    I did not say this from sight

    That stood by me in eternity.

  22. وإنما قرَّره

    عندي رسولُ الصمد

    But rather he determined it

    For me, the Messenger of the Eternal.

  23. فكان يملي وأنا

    أكتب عنه بيدي

    So he would dictate and I

    Would write from him with my hand.

  24. وهكذا الأمر ولا

    يعرفه من أحد

    And this is how it is, and none

    Knows it except one from anyone.

  25. غيرُ إمامٍ سابق

    بالخير أو مقتصد

    Other than a preceding imam

    In goodness, or moderate.

  26. والغيرُ لا يعرفه

    في الحال بل في الأبد

    And the rest do not know it

    Now, but in eternity.

  27. وكلُّ فرع راجع

    لأصله لم يزد

    And every branch goes back

    To its origin, nothing more.
