1. الله يعلمُ أني لستُ أذكره

    لعلمه باعتقادي أنه الذاكرُ

    God knows I do not mention Him

    For He knows my belief that He is the Rememberer

  2. فليس يذكره إلا هوّيته

    والعبدُ يحجبها عن عينه ساترُ

    None remembers Him but His essence

    While the servant veils it from his eyes, the concealer

  3. وقد علمتُ بما في الدارِ من حرم

    مسترات عن الإدراكِ بالناظر

    And I knew what the abode contains of sanctuaries

    Veiled from comprehension by the onlooker

  4. الدارُ دارُ نعيمٍ لا اكتراثَ بها

    فإنْ أضيفَ إليها فهو بالنادر

    The abode is an abode of bliss, with no concern for it

    If attributed to it, then it is rare

  5. لأن ذلك إن قالوه عن غرضٍ

    من النفوسِ إذا ما لم يكن زاجرُ

    Because if they say it for a purpose

    From the souls, if there is no deterrent

  6. أو كالذي قيل في عين الحسان إذا

    أمرضن في نظريا طرفها الفاتر

    Or like what is said about the spring of beauty when

    Its languid glance makes me sick in my eyes

  7. تلهُّفي حيث لا أحظى بجنَّتها

    عن التألم وهو المؤلم الحاضرُ

    My yearning where I have no share of its paradise

    From anguish, and it is the present painful thing

  8. إن التألم يعطي الشخصَ نشأته

    لا الدار فاعلم بأنَّ الحكم للخابر

    For anguish gives the person his vigor

    Not the abode, so know the experienced is the judge

  9. لو كان للدار أخران لما وجدت

    لذاتها أنفسٌ سرورها ظاهر

    If the abode had others, it would not find

    For itself souls whose joy is apparent

  10. بما ينعم ذا به يُعذَّبُ ذا

    أعني به السببَ المشهودَ لا الناظر

    By what one is blissful with, another is tormented

    I mean by it the witnessed cause, not the onlooker

  11. فإن علمتَ الذي قلناه قلت به

    وإنْ جهلتَ فأنت التاجر الخاسر

    So if you knew what we have said, speak with it

    And if ignorant, you are the losing trader
