Crowds jostled me as I received intimates,

Who had come circling in distress.

They unveiled the sun's splendor and said to me,

"Exercise restraint, for the soul dies in an instant."

And how many resolute souls have we killed

With pebbles, beside the stoning pillars?

In the valley's expanse, the banners of Mina,

The throngs at Arafat, and where pilgrims gather,

Do you not know beauty robs those endowed

With chastity, who are called pilferers of virtues?

So our appointment, after circling Zamzam,

Is by the central dome, by the rocks,

Where, maddened by fervor, some slake their thirst

With whatever scented women they desire.

When night falls, they let down their hair, which, from

Its braids, plunges into darkness' robes.
