إذا كنتَ مِحساناً فليتك تسلمُ

فكيف إذا ما كنت بالضدّ تعلم

If you have been virtuous, may you be secure,

But how will you fare if you have chosen the opposite path?

لحى الله دهراً كنتَفيه مقدَّماً

فويلٌ لدهرِ أنت فيه المقدَّم

May God prolong a time when you took the lead,

But woe to a time when you took the lead unjustly.

فأخسر خلق الله مَنْ باعَ دينه

بديناً جَهولٍ غيره وهو يظلم

The most wretched of God's creation is he who sells his faith

For an ignorant religion not his own, wronging himself.
