باب المعارفِ مفتوحٌ لقارِعه

وكيف يُقرعُ باب وهو مفتوحُ

The door of knowledge is open for the one who knocks

How can one knock on a door that is already open?

ما ذاك إلا لما في الدار من حرم

والشخصُ ذو بصر والصدرُ مشروحُ

That is only because of the sanctity within the house

And the person has sight and an open chest

وصاحبُ الدارِ غيران وذو مقة

في أهله والهوى رمزٌ وتشريح

The owner of the house is jealous and protective

Of his family, and love is a symbol and explanation

وليس يقرعُ هذا البابَ غيرُ فتى

له قليبٌ به وجدٌ وتبريحُ

None knock on this door except for a young man

Whose heart is filled with love and yearning

له قليبٌ مع أهلِ الدارِ حيره

هوى له فيه تطفيفٌ وترجيح

His heart is confused about the people of the house

He has a love for them, wavering and leaning

ما الحب إلا لأهل الدارِ ليس لها

وقد يكون لها وفيه تلويح

Love is only for the people of the house, it does not belong to it

And it may belong to it, with a hint

لأنهم عينها إنْ كنتَ ذا نظرٍ

ولا تقل هي دارٌ إنه ريح

Because they are its essence, if you have insight

Do not say it is a house, it is but a breeze
