  1. ما في الوجود الذي تدريه من أحد

    إلا له في الذي يدريه ميزانُ

    None in existence knows what another knows,

    Each has in what he knows a scale to judge and assess.

  2. يقضي به والذي بالعقل حصله

    شخص يقال له بالحدِّ إنسان

    He who attained it through intellect concludes with it,

    A being called, in definition, a human.

  3. له الكمالُ كما في الكون صورته

    ولي عليه من التشريع برهان

    He possesses perfection as his form shows in existence,

    And I have evidence from the Sharia about him.

  4. فالوزنُ لا بدّ فيه إن وزنتَ له

    ما كان من عمل نقص ورجحان

    So there must be, if you weigh for him,

    A balance between deeds - increase and decrease.

  5. فاعكف عليه ولا تفرحْ بصورته

    فقد تملكه حجدٌ ونسيانُ

    Dedicate yourself to him, but do not rejoice in his form,

    For he can be possessed by indifference and forgetfulness.

  6. يبدو إذا قسم التكليفُ بينهما

    نهيٌ وأمرٌ وإنسانٌ وشيطانُ

    When the responsibilities are distributed between them,

    There are prohibitions, commands, a human and a devil.

  7. فمن كمالِ وجودي أن يكون لنا

    من كلِّ نعتٍ نصيبٌ فيه تبيان

    My existence's perfection is that for us there is

    In every attribute a share, clarifying it.

  8. على الذي حزته من الكمال فلا

    تقل بأنَّ وجودَ الجحد نقصان

    Do not say that the lack of perfection that I criticized

    Is a defect in existence.

  9. لم ينقص النقص من عينِ الوجودِ لما

    كان الوجودُ كمالاً وهو خسران

    The defect did not detract from the essence of existence, when

    Existence was perfection, even if it caused loss.

  10. الأمر أعظم أن يحظى به أحد

    إلا الذي هو علاّم وديَّانُ

    The matter is greatest that one should attain it

    Other than He who is All-Knowing and Judge.

  11. لما أراد كمالَ الحكمِ منه أتى

    في شرعِ جبريلَ إسلام وإيمان

    When He wanted the perfection of judgment from it, He brought

    In Gabriel's Sharia, Islam, faith and goodness.

  12. فعمَّ ظاهره الأعلى وباطنه الأ

    دنى وتممه بالكافِ إحسان

    So its exoteric and its esoteric were comprehensive,

    And He completed it with alif, beneficence.

  13. فثلث الأمر والتربيع نشأته

    لذا أتاك به من بعد محسان

    Thus the command, its explanation, its genesis,

    Came to you after it, from the Bestower of Favors.

  14. فقال إنْ لم يكن كونٌ به نزه

    فاثبت على النفي ما في الكون أعيان

    So he said: If there was no contingent being

    Then persist in negation - there are no entities in the universe.

  15. هو الوجودُ فما في الكون من عدد

    والقول بالكثر في الأكوان بهتان

    It is existence, so whatever is numbered in the universe

    Is falsehood - to claim multitudes in existence is annulled.

  16. فانظر إلى حكمةٍ عرّا أتيتَ بها

    بيضاء مثلي فقال الناسُ عميان

    Look to the wisdom whose proof you have brought -

    White like me, yet the people said: blind!

  17. يا ليتَ شِعري فما في الكونِ من بصر

    يراه ناظره المدعوُّ إنسان

    Would that I knew! What insight is there in the universe

    Seen by its beholder called 'human'?

  18. إنْ تتقِ الله كان النور يعضدكم

    يتلوه فيكم هدى منه وفُرقان

    If you are God-conscious, the light will support you,

    Guidance and the Criterion will follow it in you.

  19. ما حكمة الله في الأشياء بادية

    إلا لمن هو في التحقيقِ إنسان

    God's wisdom in things is not apparent

    Except to one who is truly human in realization.

  20. فليس كونك إنساناً بصورتِك الد

    نيا إذا لم تكن بالحق تزدان

    So your being human in bodily form does not suffice,

    If you are not adorned with the Truth.
