إنَّ الذي هيمني حسنه

من الذي هام ولا تدري

The one whose beauty captivates me

Who is it that is infatuated yet unaware?

في سورة الأعلى وأمثالها

كالفجرِ والليلِ إذا يسري

In Surat Al-A'la and the like

Like the dawn and night when it passes

سبحانَ من جل فما مثله

من أحد إلا الذي أدرى

Glory to the Exalted, nothing compares

To the One I know

في سورة الشورى أتى ذكره

وإنه الآن على ذكري

In Surat Ash-Shura came His mention

And He is now in my recollection

قد جاء حقاً بالصفات التي

تزيد في العدّ عن العشر

He has truly come with attributes

Exceeding ten in number

تحمل عرشَ الذاتِ من ذاتها

وما لها عينٌ سوى سرِّي

Bearing the Throne of His Essence by His Essence

And has no eye but my secret

بها وجودي وبها كنته

لذاك تجري بي عن أمري

Through Him my existence and through Him my entity

Thus my affairs flow against my will

لا تنظروني غيره إنني

هوية الحقِّ بلا ستر

Do not look at me except as Him, for I

Am the essence of Truth without veil

فليس في العالم من مفصل

إلا وفيه علمُ الذكر

So in the world there is no joint

Without the knowledge of remembrance overflowing

فتصب يعرفه من له

في ذاته منزلةَ الشكر

So wisdom recognizes Him who has

In his essence a station of gratitude

له مزيدُ العلم من شكره

يستره ما فيه من كفر

To him is increased knowledge from his gratitude

Veiled by the disbelief in him

وليس بالكفر الذي ذقته

من قرَّر الإنسان في خسر

And not the disbelief which I have tasted

Of one who affirms man as lost

بأصله ثم أتى شارحاً

مفرعاً بالحقِّ والصبر

In origin, then came explaining

Branching with truth and patience

بذا أتى النص الذي قاله

لخلقه في محكم الذكر

Thus came the text He spoke

To His creation in the decisive remembrance

فمن يرد يمتاز في أهله

فليمشِ بالحال على أثري

So whoever wants to excel among his people

Let him walk in my state upon my trace

فإنه الحقُّ الذي قال لي

انصح عبادي وامتثل أمري

For He is the Truth who said to me

"Advise My servants and obey My command"

بمكة في حالة تقتضي

في وقتها القبض من العسر

In Mecca in a state that required

At that time, taking from hardship

وفي دمشق قال لي مثله

في مرة أخرى على سرِّي

And in Damascus He said to me the same

Another time, in my secret

فقلتُ يا رب أعني على

ما قلت لي فقال بالنصر

So I said: "O Lord, help me with

What You said to me." So He said: "With victory."

فلم يزل في نصرتي قائماً

في كلِّ حالٍ دائمِ البِشر

So He did not cease to support me

In every state, ever giving good tidings

وقال تمم ما بدأتم به

من الفتوحات على قدر

And He said: "Complete what you have begun

Of the openings, according to the decree

على لسانِ المصطفى أحمد

ولم ينب عني في العذر

Upon the tongue of the Chosen Ahmad

And did not prevent excuses from me

فإن فيها سبباً مقلقاً

يضيق من إيراده صدري

For in it is a disturbing cause

That straitens my chest to mention

فقال لي لا تلتفت إنني

مزيلُ ما تخشى من الضرّ

So He said to me: "Do not worry, I

Am removing what you fear of harm."

أيّدك الله فكن آمنا

ولا يكن قلبك في ذُعر

"May God support you, so be secure

And let not your heart be in panic."

فقمت بالعلمِ لهم مُفصحا

مبيناً في السرِّ والجهر

So I stood, eloquently explaining to them

Clarifying in public and in secret

أورده من غير كيلٍ له

كأنما آخذٌ من بحر

Citing without limit for Him

As if drawing from a sea

لو أنه ينظر في قوله

إن إليه مرجع الأمر

If one looks to His word

That to Him is the return of affairs

رأى وجود الحق عين الذي

يطلبه في وحدة الكثر

He would see the existence of Truth is the same

That he seeks in the oneness of multitudes

لو أنه يعرفُ أحواله

ما ميَّز الخيرَ من الشرّ

If he knew His states

He would not distinguish good from evil

ليس له الشرّ فإنّ الذي

سمي شرّاً عدم فادر

Evil does not belong to Him, for that

Named evil is nonexistence, realize

بيده الخير فقل كالذي

يقول فيه صاحب السبر

In His hand is good, so say as the one

Who says with span and handbreadth

فإنه الخير كما قال لي

من قال بالباعِ وبالشبر

So worship the God of the unseen, submitting

And do not disbelieve the possessor of thought

فاعبد إله السرِّ مستلماً

ولا تكفر صاحب الفكر
