لبيكَ لبيكَ من واعٍ ومن داعِ

لبرء ما بي من أمراضٍ وأوجاعِ

I am here, I am here, for the conscious and for those who call

For the healthy, free of illnesses and pains

دعوتني بلسانِ الحقّ تطلبني

إني لما قد دعوتُ السامعَ الواعي

You called me in the tongue of truth, seeking me

I am here for I was called by the conscious listener

دعوتني وضمنتم ما أسرُّ به

إذا أجبتُ فما خيبت أطماعي

You called me and confided your secret

If I answer, my hopes will not be disappointed

لا تفرحَنَّ بشيءٍ لستَ تعرفه

إنَّ الهوية في المدعوّ والداعي

Do not rejoice about something you do not know

For identity lies in the called and the caller

به سمعت كما به نطقت لذا

قد قام فينا مقامَ الحافظِ الراعي

Through it I heard as through it I spoke, so

It took the place of the Guardian, the Shepherd

أنا له تابعٌ ما دام يطلبني

كما أكون إذا أدعو من أتباعي

I follow Him as long as He calls me

Just as I become when I call one of my followers

وليس من شيعي حتى أفوز به

وإنه حين أدعوه من أشياعي

And none of my followers can succeed without me

Even when I call him from among my partisans

لذا ينزلُ في ألطافِ حكمته

من الذراعِ على التقريبِ والباعِ

So He bestows the subtleties of His wisdom

From the forearm to the bringing near and the span

فقد تقدّر والمقدار ليس له

وهو الصدوقُ فقد حيرت أسماعي

For it was predetermined and the measure is not His

And He is the Truthful, so my hearing was confused

أين العماءُ ومن حبل الوريدِ أتى

في قربه وإذا ما كنتُ بالساعي

Where are the blind, when it came from the vein

In His nearness, even when I was hurrying?

يأتي إليَّ كما قد قال هرولة

والفرقُ يعلم بين المدِّ والصاعِ

He comes to me as He said, running,

And the difference is known between extension and limitation

إنّ التنزه والتشبيه ملحمة

وتلك خيري الذي أدري وأقطاعي

Verily transcendence and immanence are interwoven

And that is my knowledge which I know and profess

ما قلتُ إلا الذي قال الإله لنا

في نعته من مقالاتٍ وأوضاعِ

I have said only what the God told us

In describing Him with sayings and positions

لما أتيت به سوق الكلام أبى

وقال ليس بضاعاتي وأمتاعي

When I brought it to the marketplace of speech, it refused

And said: “This is not my merchandise or my possessions”

إلا المحدّث والصوفيّ فاجتمعا

والمؤمون وهذا علم اجماعي

Except the mystic and the Sufi joined together

And al-Maʼmūn, and this is my consensus knowledge

إن العقول لها حدٌّ يصرّفها

وليس يعرفُ منه علمُ إبداع

Verily intellects have a limit which confines them

And the knowledge of creation is not known through them

إني أذعت لك العلمَ الغريبَ وما

أنا بصاحبِ إفشاءٍ وإيذاع

I have announced to you arcane knowledge, yet

I am not one to divulge or disseminate

إني وجدت الذي بالسير أطلبه

سير الحقائق في سبتي وإيضاعي

I have found what I seek through journeying

The journey of realities in my solitude and seclusion
