  1. صفاتُ الأولياء تزول عنهم

    ويأخذها الشقُّ هناك منهم

    The qualities of the righteous depart from them,

    And hardship takes hold of them there.

  2. كما نابَ السعيدُ هنا زمانا

    تنوبُ الأشقياء هناك عنهم

    Just as the fortunate ones enjoyed life here for a while,

    The wretched take their place there.

  3. فما لجأوا إلى الراحاتِ إلا

    وكان الأمر فيهم من لدنهم

    They sought rest only

    Because that was destined for them.

  4. وإنْ طلبوا المعونةَ من إمام

    به كفؤ هنالك لم يعنهم

    And if they sought aid from a leader

    Worthy of helping them there, he did not avail them.

  5. بنيّ إذ رأيتهمُ سُكارى

    فمل معهم وبشرهم وصُنهم

    My son, when you see them intoxicated,

    Join them, give them good news, and protect them.

  6. إذا عجز الرجالُ بأنْ يكونوا

    على تحقيقهم منهم فكنهم

    When men fail to truly be

    What they aspired to be, then be that for them.
