رأيتُ سما لاح بأفقٍ مبين

من العَلَمِ الفردِ

I saw a sky shining on the horizon

From the unique banner

ولما ارتدى

بالبرُدةِ المثلى

And when it was adorned

With the ideal cloak

هلالٌ بدا

بالأُفقِ الأعلى

A crescent appeared

In the highest horizon

طعمتُ الهدى

بالمورد الأحلى

I tasted guidance

With the sweetest spring

وما أنا فيما ذقتُه بالظنين

لعلمي بالقصْدِ

And I'm not guessing what I tasted

For my knowledge of purpose

سمعتُ الصدا

من طورِ سيناء

I heard the echo

From Mount Sinai

وعندي صدا

الماءِ زيراء

And I have the echo

Of the flowing water

فقال الصَّدا

ينبىء أبناء

So the echo said

It tells the children

ليعلم ما جئتُ به بعد حين

من الصدقِ للوعدِ

To know what I came with after a while

Of truthfulness to the promise

تمنيتُ أن

أشهد بالله

I wished

To witness God

ولم أعلمن

أنَّ به جاهي

But I did not know

That through Him is my glory

فقلت لمن

خصَّ بانباهي

So I said to the one

Who was honored by His brilliance

لقد علمَ الروحُ الخبير الأمين

بما لكم عندي

The All-Knowing Spirit has known

What you have from me

وفيتُ لكم

بالعهدِ أزمانا

And I fulfilled

The covenant for you for ages

وكانَ بكم

ذاك الذي كانا

And with you was

What was

وما قلتُكم

صِدقاً وإيمانا

And I did not say to you

Truthfully and faithfully

إذا كان مثلي في هواكم يخون

فمن يوفي بالعهد

If one like me betrays your love

Then who fulfills the covenant

رجوتُ وصالاً

والنوى يردي

I hoped for connection

And the purpose frustrates

طلبتُ اتصّالاً

قال يا بعدي

I sought communication

He said: Oh far away!

فأنشدتُ حالاً

للذي عندي

So I recited a situation

To the One I have

أحين رجوتُ الوصلَ منكم أحين

أعذَّبُ بالصَّدِّ

When I hoped for connection from you, when

I'm tortured by rejection
